Reasons why I write fanfiction:
1) I write what I want to read. If an anime's romance subplot feels unfinished, first I will look online to see if there is a fanfiction to fill that gap. If there isn't one, I will consider writing it.

I have no interest in this.

2) People are more likely to read fanfiction than original fiction. Sure, you're not going to get published that way but it's a great way to sharpen your skills.
Unless you join a site like scribophile. There, you can get TONS of critiques... which help a lot more than just comments.

3) Crack pairings. Crack pairings provide a unique challenge to try and write a story about two characters with little to no on screen chemistry and write them into a love story without changing the characters themselves. Even more challenging is trying to write it as if it were cannon and "happening in the background". The restrictions make it more challenging because you really have to get to know the characters and understand their limitations.
Really no different than your own characters.

Thanks for explaining.... I still just don't see the appeal. I guess that's just me, though.

Another piece of advice, use the quote button instead of the reply button, that'll let who you're replying to know they're being replied to rather than me having to look through the thread again.

To answer your question about what a beta reader is, all that means is a non professional reader/editor who gives your story a once over to give the second opinion and the grammatical critique you might need.

Another (although slightly involuntary...) fanfic writer here! I'm kinda just the type of trying to desperately improve, pouring a lot of time by just writing and reading. Fanfics tend to have less brainwork required than completely original stories, as recycling old stuff is possible.

About that ff.net account, well: https://www.fanfiction.net/~shirotsune

However I haven't really been super active there. And most of the stuff that I write, I'll never put up in the internet - unless explicitly requested.

ps. perhaps one of the reasons for inactivity is that I'm really confused about finding a beta-reader and I haven't had that much time to look for one, as my studies are a little bit hectic. So most of the time, I just write. And it just gets to sit out in dust.

yes. usually instantaneously. it just comes to me in a wave of fan-fueled perversion:

Especially if I fall in love with a series. I"m no EL Grey or Cassandra Clare, but I do it more for...I guess shits and giggles? Though recently I've been writing...er...more raunchier shit

I hear you. 90 percent of what I write is trash, especially the older stuff on the fanfiction account I got.

I should get a beta-reader so I can at least write correctly but....eh. I figure someone will call me out on it.

Yeah, well. I actually read the first story in your fanfiction account, it was; to say the least interesting. Captivating in a way. I ended up reading the summer; let's say the first two "short" chapters captured interest... And with the third - well then it was already bit too late ... ( ' ////////// ' )

Oh well, about the subject - I could trade-up beta-reading. x'D

ps. your writing is not as bad as you make one think, with your post.

Thank you. I take it you read from my archive account? That's the more recent stuff. The 'Summer' story is probably the best out of that group.

Though the most popular thing I wrote was something about Kamigami no Asobi and it's on my fanfiction account. *finishes pimping*

Your writing isn't as bad as you think as well.

Perhaps all the blood, I've bled from my fingertips all over my keyboard has not been for nothing! Thank you.

I am curious, if you could perhaps help me with some things when it comes to writing. I am struggling with some things that really come naturally with native speakers; while some advanced stuff, might just be like breathing. It's frustrating. :c
