Fun

Childish imagination and fun

Naruto and Bleach have moments of comedy along with cool action and awesome powers

but they don't have the same level of simple fun

I mean look at the stuff they have
A hero made out of Rubber
A Cola Powered Cyborg
Were-giraffe
A Living Skeleton who plays the fiddle
Islands in the sky on Clouds with people who wear wings living on them

and the simple enjoyment of Adventure just for the heck of it. Not some deeper goal like saving the world or resolving deeper psychological trauma.

Their adventures are based on the simple joy of "Let's go to that island over there Because it looks cool!"

One Piece is fully of the insane imagination of 10 year olds, mixed with a touch of what it means to be an adult. It reminds me of all the crazy ideas I used to have when I was a kid, like how to ride on wind because I had a long coat and could catch the updraft with it.

Naruto and Bleach appeal to the Teenager in you
One Piece appeals to the Kid in you

and frankly your inner kid is a lot happier than your inner teenager.

In Japan, One Piece has the biggest fandom of the three, so much so that it's not even really a contest, from what I understand. It's also got the most material released, and it's managed to stay on a fairly consistent release schedule.

The other two being: Naruto and Bleach.

Since all CR has been talking a lot lately are the new popular shows,
why not revive the REAL fan wars (though not that fan war) and talk about the original BIG THREE.

Out of the three, One Piece seems to have the most satisfied fans.
Out of the three, One Piece seems to have the least haters.
Out of the three, One Piece is in fact, the most successful.

All three of them are shounen.
All three of them introduced the 3 most popular group of people in anime,
ninjas, shinigamis and pirates.
All three of them have been running for 10 years now.

So, why is One Piece so special?

For the record, I loved all three of them at some point,
but now it's just One Piece and Naruto.

View my profile you'll see why one piece is so epic.

And hey, nothing wrong with a little bit of fun.

Nevermind that the more...critically acclaimed anime of the past couple of years have been a bit depressing in terms of their story and themes. It's kind of nice to fall back on something that's the equivalent of a 5 year old and a day at the amusement park, and then-some.

There is barely any filler in One Piece and that makes it the best since you do not have to skip half the series.

In turn though; the episodes are often stretched out and certain battles contain filler moves to make them last longer. Take Luffy v Hordy as an example. 1 Red Hawk in the manga compared to many, plus a bite by Hordy in the Anime.
Because Toei has the pacing of One Piece so slow, they can afford to minimize filler episodes. With long running anime following manga, it is ether one of three options; Slow pacing, low filler; fast pacing, high filler; Fast Pacing, Low Filler, Gaps between production.

One Piece pacing is sooo slow. Sometimes its a good thing and sometimes its bad. Like fishman island when they showed the queen flashback. That lasted like 5 episodes it was ridiculous and boring. But one piece is more popular because of how lovable luffy and the rest of the crew are. You can't help but love the characters. One piece is also more lighthearted then the other two.

gintama bested all those three. though i did admit the first three episodes were boring as fuck since it's just for setting up. but it manages to outdo itself until it came to an end.

I use to only care about Naruto, but somewhere along the way I got really tired of all the fillers and waiting such insane amounts of time for a fight to happen, and when that fight finally did happen it was low budget or just a complete mess. I watched Bleach as long as I have Naruto but I never liked it as much as Naruto. It was ok and had interesting fights but I didn't care about any of the characters and the story arcs just seemed... empty I guess. I started One Piece early 2013 and I caught up (about 580 episodes) in like 6 weeks. Now I like One Piece much more than the other two. Also I don't watch Naruto anymore because the War Arc is just so much filler.
Another thing, I use to despise One Piece, I really really hated it and couldn't understand why it was so popular, I didn't care for the art or the character designs or even the characters. But I gave it a real chance one day and I'm glad I did.
If I had to pick reasons I like it more or reasons why I think its more popular, it would be the fact that it has few fillers, every 30-40 episodes, usually, is a new arc, new environment, new characters and the fights are pretty cool. Naruto started fighting with "the bigger it is the stronger."

Though Hunter x Hunter > Yu Yu Hakusho > all. Them fights man, them fights.

I agree with you 100% on everything you've said! I think it's more lighthearted than the other two, which is why I am attracted to it over the others. Sure, it has it's serious moments, but then it just gets right back to being that positive, motivating, follow-your-dreams pace that makes it more fun and enjoyable to just relax and enjoy. Of course, this is just my opinion, but that's what I see in the show and why I watch it.

If I were to guess (since I never watched One Piece past episode 3) I would say the reason is because One Piece is meant to be a comedy with a goal in mind that the series is going toward. Naruto and Bleach are more serious with minor comedy elements. Perhaps people don't like the serious atmosphere of the other two shows. I myself find One Piece not to my liking since I prefer the more serious type of series. I don't mind comedy, but the stretching arm and all that were just a negative to me, not much of a pirate person either.

You would need to give One Piece at least 100 episodes to fall in love with the show.
Not as trashy as the first 20 episodes of Bleach but still.

The shows gets crazily awesome after that.

What happened to Portgas D. Ace, it's comedy?

I still couldn't believe that it made me watch 100 episodes just to see my husbando dying at the end anyway.

One piece has two explosive arcs in impel down and marineford... storytelling at its finest.. nothing in naruto and bleach even come close.. maybe the exam arc in the beginning of naruto..

also its perfect escapist fiction.. who wouldnt like sailing over an open sea with your close friends, truly being free watching the sun setting?
