Post Reply Why is One Piece more loved than the other two?
Posted 10/15/13
One Piece simply does everything in a much better way. I care about the 9 members of the strawhats, however I BARELY care about any of the heroes in Bleach or Naruto because we barely get time with them. I mean, Chad, Ishida, and orihime are basically useless.

One Piece invests heavily in character chemistry, remember those filler episodes where they are all in ancient Japan? well I wouldn't give a damn if they made 100 episodes of that because it's incredibly funny and I just love their character chemistry. Luffy is a much more likable protagonist than Ichigo or Naruto. Naruto is alright but he needs some work, Luffy has less character development than Naruto but he compensates for that by just being fun to watch. Nami is a great female character because she's funny, greedy, and not too pretentious, where as the other 2 shows try to make their women look like perfect angels

I personally think One Piece and Naruto are great but I dont care much for Bleach because of how inconsistent it is and how Tite Kubo actually writes the story sometimes based off the opinions of the viewers. It's why he made Ichimaru Gin the good guy despite making his betrayal of Aizen totally pointless in the long run or why he brought Grimmjow back to life. I personally see it as "The big 2 and Bleach"

Lots of fun quotables and points said! I'll disagree on Toei having good merchandise however, if I can't find a good original Franky figure, you've failed somewhere. Sure they have a few good figures but, Franky ain't got no good introduction figure, just the after time-skip ones, really high quality after timeskip ones but...I digress.

Don't you all dare forget about the Cultural side of things! Of the 3, One Piece is far more culturally... active. While Naruto and Bleach are both heavily Japanese in their characters, ideals, and storytelling, One Piece is a little more it's own thing. The world of One Piece has been built and shown, and it remains consistent with it's own rules. This is a result of the creator/writer having a clear path already set out before One Piece ever began. You've seen them right? Several threads somewhere on CR have tons of fan-guessing as to what One Piece is going to do next, and since One Piece has such a strong narrative, the ending is in sight, even if it's far away. The unfortunate stories of Naruto and Bleach don't have such a clear cut ending. When those shows end, it's because they decided to stop making it

Back to the culture thing. One Piece's world has a prevailing theme of anarchy and freedom other Shounen tend to lack. The same goes with Fairy Tail, HunterxHunter, Naruto, and Bleach. The very nature of Pirates is anti-establishment, the characters go against the rules set forth by others. It's something that resonates strongly with a wide set of people! Americans might not understand the cultural respect inherent of Japanese based mediums. Bleach and Naruto have more than a few things that hit home with Japanese viewers, but are really off to American's, and I won't even start on how European cultures might take it, I'm not the biggest expert at all.

One Pieces characters are also extremely engaging, they're relying on an ever expanding crew of characters instead of a mountain of established ones. And each of it's characters are unique with goals and dreams clearly stated. Zoro represents the traditional Samurai character, those you'll see in old Samurai movies and anime. Samurai 7, Katanagatari, Ninja Scroll.....Zoro is essentially based of heroes from each of them. I'm sure others could examine and talk to length about the rest of the cast, as none are the same as the other.

I'll also throw in some points with the Animation team, altho this might be in part due to the Manga as well. The character design is wild and probably annoying to animate. The characters facial structures really limit traditional lazy-animation techniques in other anime. Their chins always move, their faces are vibrant and changing. This is more akin to Western animation, which puts emphasis on characters talking far more than Japanese animation does. Part of why non-anime fans are really set a-back with Japanese Animation and tend to regard everything "speed-racer" style. WIth the sweat drops and chibi jokes everywhere. Japan LOVES their short-hand animation techniques, they love to cheat. One Piece doesn't allow that, and when they DO cheat, it's realllllly obvious and annoys the crap out of me.

Oh, and when people cry in One Piece, IT'S UGLY.

Crying is something you do when you're past your weakest point, it's not something you do in a cute, sad, or sexy way.

CRYING IS PAINFUL TO DO, PAINFUL TO WATCH, AND ONLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE EMOTIONALLY BROKEN.

One Pieces crying scenes are just amazing to me. They cry ugly, and they cry hard. Naruto and Bleach don't have moments nearly as strong as One Piece does when it's barely trying. It's like the Plot of One Piece goes out of it's way to break it's characters, which any good story should strive to do. It rebuilds them right after, tempers them, make's them stronger....but you gotta break it first.

One piece just simply appeals to both young and old. Adults are able to get in touch with their inner child while also seeing the adult undertones of the show while childeren can just watch the vibrant colors and generally the art that is appealling to the kids.
The storyline of One Piece is easy enough on the surface to follow for childeren. One Piece shows alot and doesn't tell much so kids are able to figure out who the bad guys and good guys are while adults can understand the mature undertones of story ( slavery, racism, sexuality, war, the loss of life, corruption and more.)

One Piece is also not as moody as the other 2 shows. It also allows for a more variety of emotions rather than just negative emotions such as sadness and rage. It might also be the reason why One Piece stays popular while the other two are losing popularity.
Many of the fans of Naruto and Bleach are teenagers and when teenagers grow up they aren't really that moody anymore(well yeah except for emo's.) So that is why Naruto and Bleach attract more haters than One Piece. Most of the haters were fans of the shows grown-up and not liking the serious tone. I also think Oda just has more fun with One Piece than Kubo and Kishi with Bleach and Naruto.

As a long time Bleach and Naruto fan, I can say they have disappointed me so many times. It's like I love being tortured even following still at this day and age. I really know nothing of One Piece except that it has to be better than the earlier mentioned two. I will find a way to watch all of One Piece, and be blown away in the process.

I have seen hordes of anime. Bleach and Naruto do have some amazing elements that no other anime have, but they also have some elements that all anime should shy away from. They show other animes and the world how bad filler can be, and how badly it can be done. Most of my knowledge of One Piece I gained from this thread and a few other threads similar in nature, and it just pushes me more and more towards finding a way to dive into a huge month of One Piece. Thanks everyone!!!!!!!! You guys rock

I have watched all three and for me it's int eh order of Naruto, one Piece, then Bleach. Bleach held my attention for a long while but after going back and rewatching the show from the beginning I found a lot of things to be very annoying (especially Orihime) One Piece is a fun romp with some serious heartfelt episodes. i love the chemistry of the characters and their back stories. Naruto is number one for me because I identify very well with the theme and tone of the show. I like how Naruto despite being treated poorly proves himself and wins over those who had doubted him (which have mirrored my own endeavors) Also the themes of friendship and community. I don't mind fillers from either Naruto or One Piece. In some ways they add to the chemistry and flesh out characters.

One Piece pacing is sooo slow. Sometimes its a good thing and sometimes its bad. Like fishman island when they showed the queen flashback. That lasted like 5 episodes it was ridiculous and boring. But one piece is more popular because of how lovable luffy and the rest of the crew are. You can't help but love the characters. One piece is also more lighthearted then the other two.

Well at least that flashback was relevant to the storyline and made you feel something for what the island had been going through. Much like the current arc flashbacks where they have been building this enemy and you start to see what he's done and the payoff is satisfying because you get to see him get his ass kicked.

Naruto flashbacks are every single episode and most of them pointless repeats just to fill time. I remember watching it for a while at one point and every single episode had the same two flashbacks. Naruto vs Sasuke in a waterfall and Sasuke leaving with Sakura begging him to stay. Was like "Now Sasuke i will bring you back!" *waterfall flashback* "You are a fool ahah i will kill you!" "If that's what you want come kill me!" *Waterfall flashback* "I understand you Sasuke!" *Waterfall flashback" *cut to Sakura* "Oh Naruto is trying so hard for my sake..." *Sakura crying like a little bitch flashback* "Huh Sakura is crying" *Flashback of Naruto hugging Sakura* "Haha Sakura is crying again because she is stupid! I shall kill her!" *Sakura crying like a little bitch flashback followed by waterfall*

Your obviously a big one piece fan and not such a fan of naruto. I love both serious equally and so i can tell you that one piece has a lot of useless flashbacks just like naruto. But i agree that naruto has way to many flashbacks and fillers but thats because it has too. Just like one piece with flashbacks and they need to add alot of flashbacks and filler to give the manga more time.

Naruto is currently garbage and has gone on far to long. Bleach has been garbage ever since the soul society arc and the anime even got canceled. One Piece is full of good action and the plot and back story of it is amazing. It's easy two of the three are currently meh with one being amazing.

I whole heartedly agree that One Piece deserves it's crown as being the best of the Big Three. It has the best characters out of the three, and a plot that doesn't take itself seriously all the time. The story and characters feel the most organic out of the three. Bleach decided to take a nose dive after the Soul Society arc, and Naruto decided to shoot itself in the leg some where along the line in Shippuuden.

But the only I read and or watch is Bleach, even though I totally agree its the crappiest of the three. I guess I'm just curious as to how Kubo wants to end the story, or maybe it's just pity cause it's the least liked. The other two I don't even bother with anymore I guess I just got bored of a never ending story

One Piece is just better. It also helps that Luffy is a much more likeable character than Naruto and Ichigo
