If you don't mind a pretty long answer, PodTaku - Episode 12: The Mathematics of Moe.

Moe, in and of itself, does not bother me, but the overt sexualization of it by certain fans (and creators) of the aesthetic, especially coupled to loli characters, does tend to make me uncomfortable.

This. I do get tired of people raving about shows that having nothing but cutesey appeal as well.

No, I'm not against it; however, I don't like it when anime and manga try to force me to enjoy their particular brands of "moe." It's similar to being told a flat joke by a desperate comedian.

I don't always like moe, but I like feeling moe.

(It gets confusing when we use the same word for an art style/genre as well as experiencing a complex emotion.)

As long as there's more to the series than just moe (comedy, intrigue, etc.) I don't mind it as being in a show. If it's the only appeal, then it becomes unenjoyable. Basically, if it's a good story, I don't care what it looks like.

I'm not sure. I don't really have a problem with "cute" anime characters, but if you're referring to the cliche/stereotype "moe-moe-kyun" characters, then they can at times make me feel a bit sick. I typically prefer characters that are cute in their own way, like Tomoko from Watamote or any of the girls from Azumanga Daioh. I also like the disconnected, aloof (kuudere?) type characters like Rei Ayanami from NGE or Mei Misaki from Another. I don't like, however, tsunderes(there are some I do like, but mostly I find them annoying), or the generic form of "cute" anime characters like what one could find in K-on or any other average Slice-of -Life-Highschool-OMG-BBQ anime out there. Moe, as it seems to me, is a pretty subjective term. What exactly do you mean by it?

tl; dr version: OP, wat is moe?

Moe is something that is cute, innocent, helpless, and endearing. Usually has very large eyes. A common thread is that moe characters are meant to provoke a desire to protect them. TV Tropes has a big article explaining in detail exactly what it means. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Moe

Thanks for that

After the explainations though I can honestly say that while I don't hate it, but I really don't like either. All the examples I've seen or heard of it don't really interest me.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of Moe shows just to be cute until the audiences' eyes fall out because of the cuteness? Every season there usually are a couple of those shows and I read their descritption and look at the art, and I think to myself just what makes this popular? I'm not exactly a cute lover and I can tolerate it, I just can't force myself to watch a show where my mind fells like it's being attacked by pointlessness.

Though I'm totally cool if other people like it.

No problem here with it, but I don't actively seek it out either. My real question is when did trope become such a popular word. Probably have read it more times in the last few days than I've read or heard all my life
