So I've been playing the new blizzard game, Hearthstone for a while now. It's pretty fun, 8.5/10.
It's basically a card game that reminds me of Magic The Gathering, you get mana every turn and draw cards and play spells are creature. Both players start at 30 hp and the goal is to down them to 0.

You can pay real cash for packs of card or to play in the arena or you can earn in game gold with daily quests and achievements. Personally I payed about 10$ to start some arena because that's what I prefer in the game but you can play without paying a buck. Playing regular game is fun but some people invested a lot of money and have a lot of rare cards which is the down side but after playing a while you'll get your own good cards and you don't need good cards to win, good decisions and luck will make you win. Games last between 5-15 mins, mostly around 10 mins.

the arena : my favorite game mode, you need to pay 2$ or 150 igg to access it. How it works : you get offered 3 cards, 30 times and you build a deck on the go. Then the goal is to get as many wins without losing 3 times, after you lose 3 times or win 9 times, you'll open a chest with your reward which depends on the number of win you got.

It is still in beta right now but I recommend this game to anyone, I don't really like the pay factor but we are in 2013 and that's how the gaming industry is right now so w/e...tell me your opinion about the game if you are playing.

Times ago, games had to be good to justify the full price.
Now days, "ship it 60% complete, micro transaction for 15% extra content, and macro transaction the 20% of the rest."
One time payment system is high burst sales then nothing due to how 2nd hand sales work with royalties.
The micro-trans system can follow some paths.
half price/full price to cover development, or "free to play" model with higher amount of content blocked behind the pay shield.
In some games 95% or more of the game is behind a pay shield.

Turns out, micro-trans system earns more money in the long run.
One time payment systems require the developers to create more new games to keep making money, while micro-trans systems just need to keep the severs alive, and may release additional content.

I also recently started to play hearthstone and I am a big fan of it already. Got my mage class to level 23 and currently sitting in Platinum 1 star. I also did not need to spend any money to win or get better cards. If I were to have to comment on the money system in hearthstone it would be "Just as any other card games physical or digital paying for cards is a matter of how fast you wish to obtain them and complete a perfect combo deck"

I play magic the gathering in real life time to time but with the lack of nerds publicly it is hard to find players to play with, hearthstone completely takes that part out and allows me to play strategic card play any time I feel like it.

Man, Hearthstone is great, it needs to go into a open beta though so more people can get in. The Arena is definitely the best part of the game for me. What kind of decks do you guys play? I started using druid a lot more recently.

They sent out two large waves of invites this past week. If you're using gmail, check under the "Promotions" tab just in case, since Gmail automatically sorts it there.

Having no luck with a beta key. Can't wait until it is in open beta to finally give my own opinion on this game.
