I've been watching Anime since the 90s, but I've never once opened a Manga. It's not just restricted to Anime and Manga, either. I used to get into the X-Men and Spiderman cartoons, but never got into comics. I also enjoy the Walking Dead series on AMC, but don't really care to read the comics. I guess for some people, reading and still pictures just aren't enough. That's why animating a Manga is such a wonderful thing.

I personally don't know how someone can just decide to watch an anime without knowing where it came from, i.e. a manga, light novel, or game.

It's hard for me to watch something without something to look back to.

The only time I ever read manga was to get what I considered a better ending to Mirai Nikki. Then they finally released the OVA with a better ending for me.

I've never read any Manga, in its entirety, in my entire life. All the anime I've watched over the past 20-years has been manga free.

How is that even possible? o.O

Easy: I hate Manga.

Pretty positive i read that wrong, i took it as you've only watched anime that didn't have a manga form the past 20 years LOL

I watch more anime than reading manga, just because I prefer to hear what's going on and see everything in motion better. I do, however, read manga and I have a decent collection. I like manga and reading it cuz I can appreciate the original artwork itself, plus manga is the original story line usually, whereas anime tends to add fillers or change things up a little bit.

Another reason I watch anime more, though, is because it cost to much money too be buying all that manga for all my favorite series, so I haven't really bought a huge amount of manga in a long time, except for Attack on Titan right now. I need to be spending my money on more important things like college sadly ^^". I don't read manga online for free either because I would rather have the volume physically in my hands lol

I prefer watching anime, but sometimes I just buy the first volume of the manga bc, idk, it's just a very nice feeling buying and owning where one of my favorite animes come from (:

I use to only watch anime for a year but for the last few months I've been reading a lot of manga. Recently I only read manga, not watch anime. There's so many great mangas out there that haven't been made into animes. I can take my time with manga and it's easier to go back (at least for me) If I miss something. Animes sometimes cut out a lot of details so that's another great thing about manga.

Been watching anime a couple years, I hadn't read any manga until very recently - after watching Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (again), I somehow was curious enough to try the manga. It was a good experience, so I might get into manga at some point. Although... for some anime, the manga readers get a little too chatty on the forums and end up dropping spoilers on everyone. Well, it's probably a minority of manga readers, but anyway that's another topic, my bad. But yeah, manga is ok by me too.

At my one of my local libraries, they have TONS of manga (and anime) that I can borrow for free! It didn't used to be like that 10-15 years ago, but now it is! So u could always go that route! U might even be able to search the online catalog of your libraries at home.

Mark of being an old man? Going to the library for videos/DVDs :P

I have only read one manga all the way through, which was Soul Eater. (Oh, that's a lie, I also read and loved Pokemon Adventures up through Diamond/Pearl. I could maybe get into it if I wanted to, but, like suikojay, I have lots of other things I do, too.

EDIT: I also think that if I decided to pick it up for serious, I would want to do it legally. And you have to have money for that.

I've only read about 3 mangas and don't do it very often, especially since I got into anime. It took me around two years to start watching anime after I read my first manga, which is kind of weird, but I didn't really think of it at the time.
