It has gotten really bad today. I'm down to watching in SD and still having to give it a few minutes to buffer up.

yeah i've tried that before. it lags just as much with the ps3 as with pc. the only thing which works is dropping to SD definition and thats not an option. thanks for the idea though but its a no-go at least for me.

i'm glad that they will be tryin to fix the problem however they said they said they would look into it months ago. what bothers me most isnt that there is a problem... i can definitely sympathize with that provided they are trying to fix it. what bothers me is how they dont like to openly admit there is a problem or take responsibility for it. just as they were quick to jump on me earlier even though what i said was directed at the community at large.

in any case...here is hoping to a quick resolution.. but i wont count my blessings.

i'm with the others... come the new year if things dont look up i'll be thinking about just streaming free and blocking ads.

After switching to Open DNS I was actually able to watch videos in 1080 for a while. But lately I've had to move back down to 720 on most days due to stuttering.

I'm still just happy I can watch in HD though, previously I couldn't even get SD to stream.

There are definitely kinks to be worked out with the websites video player. That's for sure. But to be fair, I don't think CR is avoiding the problem and sidestepping issues nearly as much as people have been saying.

This has gotten worse lately. I've got a high end gaming machine and 100/100 Mbit internet and I still can't watch 1080p anymore. It started with not being able to watch 1080p this year, and recently I'm unable to even watch 720p. What's the point of being a paying customer if I'm getting a significantly worse service than I do when I download torrents.

Shape up or slip out, CR!

I've been trying to watch an episode for the past 30minute and it keeps shuttering until it just freezes, so annoying.

Also getting a lot of stop/play on my streams got a 60MB unlimited fiber optic line with only myself using it, tried playing about with dns/cache settings that gave no help. However! Running a tracert command to the crunchy website (note sure if it;s the crunchyroll.com does the streaming or not) but ran a tracert to there and upon the 9th hop where the packets move onto a hop named atlas.cogentco.com my ping goes from 8-10 ms all the way to 282MS. This of any help Bjak?

Same here -- my video on my laptop will stutter, then freeze/stop buffering. Usually it takes a refresh to get it to continue buffering, and even then, I'm only good for a few seconds to two minutes at most.
It is frustrating and I'm getting very aggravated. This has been happening for days.

@otsohiru

you arent alone.

trace was at 17ms until it hit atlas.cogentco.com and jumped up to 91 then went back and forth on atlas for many more jumps finally ending at 135.

generally most websites ping between 12-45ms including many streaming sites.

netflix pinged about 124ms however it is prime-time for the service and i have experienced a few issues there at times however in general the buffering isnt an issue as it is on CR. they let you buffer a bit longer and it doesnt typically top buffering for no reason and freeze.

as far as i can tell cogentco is a CDN.

Have you tried setting the video quality to SD? Does it still stutter and freeze after doing so? Are you streaming over WiFi? If so, us your WiFi card and router 5G capable?

I'm having streaming stutter issues as well with any video from SD to 1080P (forget 1080P, it doesn't even load).

Crunchyroll, ya'll need to get on the ball with this. It's obviously not my connection taking a dump, I get great speed all 1400 miles to your content host (Akamai):

That's as close geographically (about 45 miles) as I can get to the Crunchyroll Akamai servers, as you can see I can get quite good speeds to there which means the issue probably lies with the cloud host (Cloud hosting SUCKS).

FYI, for you all wondering about Crunchyroll's content host- the Crunchyroll.com site does NOT host the videos, they are broadcast via the AKAMAI cloud hosting service. If you're running tests, you need to test with this address:

cp150757.edgefcs.net

<---- 43 months consecutively a premium member...seriously tempted to drop premium over this as it's been an ongoing issue for too long.

What you call "Cloud hosting" is a CDN (Content Delivery Network), and is the same method used by the "big boys" (i.e., Netflix, Hulu). One difference is they can afford redundancy (more than one CDN), something CR has already stated they are moving toward.

The problem is that Crunchyroll's quality of service has just not been there (this has been an issue for more than 12 months). Even Hulu with Advertisements doesn't have these streaming issues, lol. Netflix occasionally has streaming issues but the oft-maligned Silverlight player actually does a great job covering the holes.

I realize it's a massive undertaking to fix an issue like this once it appears...the problem is that the warning signs have been tripping flags for more than a year. Crunchyroll is the big name State-side for anime streaming legally, but issues like this push people back toward the pirated, fansubbed anime. It's already bad enough for CR that the pirates, with no licensing restrictions, can beat CR to the punch by 2-3 days on some anime with better quality.

EDIT: If it's any indication for how widespread this issue is, take a look at this thread's stats. 44 replies...but a WHOPPING 237,418 views.
