I've noticed that the majority of those who've taken the Anime vs Manga poll have answered in favour of anime. However, it's my belief that the older generation (a minority here on CR) would vote otherwise. Myself an my friends would like to see if we're right.

Anime still, so far.

well, you're making a versus poll on an anime forum, obviously anime would win since most of us are here for anime.

if you ask this poll in a manga forum, manga would win. a lot of people prefer manga to anime.

My actual age is posted. Myself, I greatly favor watching anime. Lately, I've imported quite a few manga from Japan to read, but this is really just to practice my Japanese-- my level is still basic such that manga is more than sufficiently challenging, with even light novels as well as any sort of "high" literature or journalism being out of the question.

If you seek reliable data for your poll, though, GayAsianBoy's point is spot on. Your results will be skewed by an ascertainment bias (inherent, even if unintentional, bias in your data gathering methodology which will essentially invalidate your results) if you rely only on CR folks as your sample.

I prefer manga, much more varied titles and genres available. I have a bit of a bias towards voice acting. It has to be done really well or I'd skip the anime regardless on how supposedly good the story is.

I'm glad you all seem serious about this. I'm aware that my results will be anything but accurate. I was curious to see if there would be any change in the results, in comparison to the original poll. Thanks for all the opinions.

In all honestly, I believe that manga is more accessible than anime. You can find it online, in bookstores, at the library, etc. Anime can only be found through the Internet, and if you can afford it (which I can't), on DVDs. There's just such an overwhelming amount of it. Manga is easier to create relative to anime (not that manga's easy to create in the first place, oh no), and that also helps.

Also, the anime gets cut off sooner or later, depending on how much its made. Reading the manga means there's just so much more plot and story to go through that you don't get in the anime. You even get to avoid the fillers, how nice!

I love both but I heavily lean towards anime. When taking things that are in anime into consideration (the voice acting, soundtrack, the animation and other elements), I feel like the experience that one can gain while watching anime is enjoyable on a couple more levels than the experience one can get from reading manga. I believe seeing happening in motion is better than seeing pictures of what's happening.

I mainly watch anime. I enjoy both, and sometime I'll admit that the manga is much better, or the anime goes way of track from the manga and goes in a different direction, which can be good or bad. But for the most part I'll only watch anime, but when I run across a really good anime with a great story/characters/etc. I'll then read the manga. There is only one manga I always read before watching the anime, and that is my favorite anime/manga, One Piece. Another issue is I read slow, mainly because I can get sidetrack easily and then I end up re-reading parts. So I find it faster to watch the anime sometimes.

The problem with anime is that a good portion of it is adapted from manga and light novels and, most of the time, adapted material is much better in its original form. There are some very good original anime that I am a fan of, but, for the most part, I prefer the manga.

Also, a lot of the best manga aren't popular enough to get the backing to be made into anime.

I like both, and often switch preferences as to what I'll consume with priority. But, overall, I prefer manga. This has nothing to do with if manga is better than anime, I just find it more convenient to read a couple chapters in an hour than only get through 2 or 3 episodes of something per day. Though anime often has a better immersion aspect, for me at least.
