yes. I liked Code Geass a lot until I started watching R2.

Even a weird ending like the very recent Gatchaman Crowds and Sunday Without God endings... both had little epilogues that kinda ruined everything/ made it super confusing.

Anyways, who really cares about a small plot hole? Still an amazing anime.

Yes, so much so I now wait until I know the ending before I even begin to watch shows because I'm a stickler for the happy ending now that def. can be several different things but i hate the ones that kill off people right at the end. if they are going to die kill them the first episodes damnit.

I don't think many people would consider the heart to be a small plot hole. If it was a small plot point, fine, a lot of shows have plot holes. But because it was THE plot point, the one the show ended on and the thing that the show tries to bring out the most emotion with, it turns into a big plot hole that killed the anime for a lot of people. I enjoyed my time with the anime, but for it to lead to that? It kind of killed the show for me.

I don't think either of those endings ruined their respective series. I actually had no problem with Sunday Without God's ending, the only real problem I had with that series was the Goran Academy arc. As for Gatchaman Crowds that ending did hurt it a bit. Because the ending seems to come out of nowhere and lacks a lot of context it makes me believe the rumor that about 10 minutes of animation from the last episode were cut.

Not the exact ending but the progression of the show itself ruined it for me: Stella C3

Had so much promise with the first half, then I just didn't like it at all, the characters lost all their charm and everyone just started pointing fingers at each other. The resolution was half baked and should have been done before the show got out of hand but noooo, let's keep it all bottled up or lets immediately blame someone other than ourselves and thennnn we'll try and be buddy buddy again.

Well the gatchaman one is less of a ruin and more a WTF? (And I also believe that rumor )
But the last like, 30 seconds of sunday without god completely killed all of the emotions I had about it.

A bad ending will only ruin an anime for me if it pretty much renders everything that came before it completely and utterly pointless (I can't think of any examples at the moment). I've seen more than one anime that I liked despite the anime having an ending I didn't really care for. I do feel that it's a bit of a shame when an anime I'm really enjoying ends on a low note, though.

YES. A bad ending can ruin a good or great show. I won't say that the ending is the most important part of the show, but when I decide if I like a show or not, I look at it from beginning to end and, sadly, some bad endings have really hurt some very good shows.

Shakugan no Shana is the most obvious offender in my book (but that's for the whole third season, including the ending). Took it down from what, for me, had been a near perfect show and dropped into the realm of merely good.

Guilty Crown's ending also made me miserable, and really ruined the show for me. Either they both should have lived, or both should have died. Either one would have been fine by me, but their ending 1) made no sense, and 2) was really sad.

Those were the most apparent offenders, but there have certainly been others that have simply let me down, just not to the same extent.

EDIT: In defense of a few...

Angel Beats! seemed to have a pretty logical ending to me.

The double deus ex machina in SAO actually seems to me to be part of the point of the show, but I'm very much in a minority in thinking that.

Sometimes endings can ruin it for me, it really depends on the specifics and just HOW bad they made it.
Sad endings doesn't make it a bad ending though like some people seem to think, but if the ending just doesn't make ANY sense, then yeah, it ruins it for me.

I love both of your points about endings, but I have to discuss my thoughts about the Angel Beats ending seeing as you both thought it made sense. I have to rant about this.

Spoilers for Angel Beats!

Reborn's ending ruined the whole show for me. That's the first one that comes to mind since I recently finished it. Bleach's anime ending was pretty terrible too. If plans to end the anime were in the works, then they could have ended it on a better arc.

*thinks*

Unsatisfying endings happen so frequently in anime / manga (IMO) that I more or less take for granted that a series is not going to end in a way that I enjoy, be it due to a feeling of incompleteness or a sense of utter cop-out bullshit. Thus, I do not dwell on it. That way, when I do get a good ending (rare), I enjoy it that much more.

Deadman Wonderland.

I was planning to give it an 8 for the thrills and whatnot but dropped it to a 6 'cause of the shitty ending.

It sure does.
I thought Soul Eater was amazingly done until the last episode.
I found out later that the ending was different from how it was supposed to be.
Shame.

But on the other hand, a good ending can save a bad anime.
Example of this is: School Days. I couldn't have wished for a better ending!
And the ending to the Endless Eight which was The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
made the whole shitty loop thing understandable at least.
