Warning: this thread may very likely contain many spoilers, so if you haven't watched Attack on Titan yet, don't read it.

While watching the first episode of Attack on Titan (and continuing so far up to episode 14), I couldn't help but feel that these people were woefully unprepared for having had 100 years to get ready. I mean, the walls were impressive, sure, and the maneuver gear was very cool. The cannons, though, were utterly useless. And why was there only one boat with a tiny capacity? What's even the point of that? Quite frankly, while I felt bad for them since they suffered so terribly, I couldn't help but feel like they had nobody to blame but themselves and their apparent apathy.

So I thought to myself, what would *I* do if I had been there? Because I damned well would have been devoting my time to doing *something* to improve my situation if I looked out over the walls every day and saw the titans walking around. One would think there would be some agency set up with the express purpose of researching methods to deal with the titans. Thus, this thread; please post your ideas on how to defend against or fight the titans or reasons why any posted ideas wouldn't work.

Here's a few I and a friend came up with:

- Try and get titans to eat some expanding material, like dehydrated seaweed. Maybe it'll blow them up, maybe it'll make them full, maybe it'll block their mouths from closing...
- How about nets? I figure they'd at least slow the titans down or trip them up a little.
- Caltrops would be pointless in the face of regeneration, but how about titan-scale marbles?
- Instead of a wall, build a moat and fill it with acid. Surely they would never get past this.

- Also, if titans don't digest their food, wouldn't the safest place be... inside a titan? Perhaps that would be a worthwhile avenue of research, if only some test subjects could be found.

I think the main problem that mankind faces in AoT is a lack of resources. Most people within the walls have no idea that oceans even exist, as information regarding the outside world has been outlawed. I could be wrong, but it appears that the Survey Corps is a relatively new organization, having only launched 57 expeditions beyond the walls.

It also seems like there is a strong "anti-technology" sentiment in certain groups of society, namely the wall worshipers. It took years (or decades) for humanity to even build cannons on the walls, because of this religious group. Even during the time that the show takes place, the religious elements are strongly opposed to anything new and to the Recon Corps.

Also, I don't want to spoil anything for you, but there have been a few other inventions and changes in tactics thanks to the Survey Corps that you will discover later in the series.

Yes, the people inside the walls grew complacent over time because their lives never seemed to have any possibility of change. So they just chose to push the idea of Titans outside of their minds since "it wasn't their problem".

The problem with coming up with ideas to fight the titans is that there will always be those

And if you're inside a Titan, that means you were eaten, which means you're probably in pieces on the way down.

True, but we've seen plenty of times where titans have eaten people, but not chewed them up. For instance:

True, but we've seen plenty of times where titans have eaten people, but not chewed them up. For instance:

Crazy theory time: I want to think there is some kind of gas or liquid that dulls the senses like anesthesia inside their stomachs that causes the titan's victims to drown if they're not already dead.

Or it could be the lack of oxygen in the titan's stomach that ultimately finishes off any unlucky survivors.

You definitely have some cool points to talk about and I bet plenty of users would like to hash it out with you... however we actually already have an Attack on Titan discussion thread that does allow spoilers so it would be better off placed in there.

You can find that thread right here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-798407/attack-on-titan-discussions-spoilers?pg=0

Thanks for using the Crunchyroll Forums and I hope you keep having fun with Titan even if the anime is on a bit of a hiatus! Just wish they would put out manga chapters faster myself...
