Does anime make you feel old?

I only really feel old when I realize that a lot of the stuff that's more popular nowadays isn't the stuff I like. There are exceptions (like Attack on Titan), but most of the popular stuff tends to leave me cold, since it is aimed at an audience I'm really not a part of anymore. Then again, I still can appreciate stuff that really is more kid-oriented than the stuff aimed at younger teens.

Actually, now that I think about it, it really is more the action shows aimed at teens I tend to have trouble with; the romances and comedies I actually can deal with a lot more readily. Though they still do make me feel old, particularly with regard to romance: at this point in my life, it isn't that likely I'll run into a woman who has never been in love before (and if they haven't, something is probably wrong with them), so any notion of being with your first love forever seems in a lot of ways more fanciful than a lot of other things...so I don't know.

I guess my answer is "yes, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying it".

Yea, I hear you. Then you find out how few Anime are aimed at adults... The people on this board who don't know where a van down by the river is have no claim to being old :-)

It's quite the opposite for me. It's the fact that I can enjoy anime that reminds me that age is all in your head. Good story telling that's fun at the same time never gets old.

I've always claimed the secret to feeling young is the ability to laugh at Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes that you have already seen.

The day that you stop watching anime because it's something 'kids' do is the day you should start shopping for a coffin.

I'm a lot older than 20, and I like amine with teen characters because it lets me reflect on my teen years.

I think it does in a way. But I don't dislike it. I feel like I can cheer the characters on. In a "go on you can do it!" kind of way. I normally don't connect to anime in such a deep way though. I really enjoy it and can't imagine my life without it. But I don't confuse 2D and 3D and rarely have a real connection like what your describing.

Sometimes I feel that way too. I play games and watch anime where the main characters are in their teens or early twenties. When I pass that age, I always feel a little strange. That's life though. We can't control age, its just something that happens.

I used to be a protagonist (16-18 age wise) now I'm just old.

Nope, I'm still around protagonist age. I'll probably feel old when I hit 20, though.

It's not so much old but useless is how I feel, all these shows with teen protagonist seem to have ineffectual adults and the ones who are only either bit players in the "grand scheme of life" or they were as good as they are before they even reached the protagonists' ages.

There's been an uptick in high school and teen anime in recent years, so lately it's started to feel that way I guess. Back in the 90's I felt the opposite, like I might be too young for anime, because there were tons of ultra-violent OVAs with adult characters and situations being released back then, and frontal nudity was a lot more open in Japan back then too. It just goes to show how times change.

It sure can. It can also make me feel like one of those old men that peeps at teen girls. Idk why but these "Teens" have bodies like models and makes me go "Why must you make me feel this way" lol

But then I remember most of these voice actors are older so it cancels itself out.

So it can make me feel older, but some of the issues that go on in the shows can make me relate so it brings me back to the age group I guess.

Does anime make me feel old? Hell no. Will it ever make me feel old? Probably not. What makes me feel old is when I reminisce about my childhood and all the anime that I used to watch back then.
