Most recently?
Angel Beats. I try not to make myself suffer so I forced myself to watch another anime.

Which show did I watch that left me an emotional wreck craving continuation? I guess that's the fate of anime fans given that sometimes amazing series either eventually end or fall prey to overseas ratings and financial concerns. But here are a few that I have come across lately since my viewing history isn't as robust forgive me if I miss something others would think as obvious.

Clannad: very few can fill this void but I found that Say "I love you" and The Place Promised in Our Early Days helped.

Ef - A tale of Memories: I just recently got season 2 so we'll see how that works but Fortune Arterial and Kanon 2006 were good fill-ins.

Angel Beats!: hard to recover from a show that could have been in the same vein as the KyotoAni holy trinity but was forced to be shorter than intended and so came acrossed as somewhat rushed but Soranowoto and Tari Tari helped ease the loss though Soranowoto is as tear inducing as AB! For different reasons.

Skip Beat!: need continuation and need it now but Pet Girl and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU helped a bit.

Only 2 Anime have ever had any real after effect on me so far...

Neon Genesis Evangelion , left me with a VERY unfulfilled feeling after watching it...that ending was just....

And The World God only knows season 3, the way it ended and how everything built up to it had a major impact on me...

Its been over a week since i finished the anime...i was just straight depressed for a few days and I'm still half miserable, >.<

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Shinsekai Yori
Nijuu Mensou no Musume
Gankutsuou
Tatami Galaxy
Natsume Yuujinchou series (season 1-4)
Kino's Journey
Steins;Gate
Humanity Has Declined
Michiko to Hatchin

Those are the ones that come to mind, where TTGL gave me the worst case of PADS, then Shinsekai Yori and downwards. If a show is really good, and ends up on a satisfactory note - chances are that I will get a case of PADS. Because when you experience something fantastic, and realise it is over... well, reality smacks you in the face.

Typical thoughts during PADS:

"I'm glad it ended like that, but I really wish there was more... and ugh poor X character... "

Im with you there man, Garden of words so amazing both visually and story. Simple yet interesting, it had the power to reel me in when I first glanced at it, next thing I knew, it was over and I wanted more. Sadly Only depression took over TT.TT, I then resorted to rewatching love chunibyo & other delusions for a 2nd time, fixed me right up.

Free! - because I wasn't ready for it to end.

and for either bad/unfinished endings or endings that made me cry
Vision of Escaflowne - It's like I love you and want to stay with you, ok i'm going now never to see you again bye. I was crying and saying what the hell, then just stay.

Angel Beats - So sad, but happy in a way right at the end. They found each other agin.

Shattered Angels - Same as Angel beats. Bawling my eyes out untill after the credits, when they were happy tears.

Shikabane Hime - That is not an ending. You cannot end an anime right at the big bad boss fight.

Black Blood Brothers - It really felt like I was missing a prequal, and sequal. There was just so much left out of the story it left me pretty confused for a while after.

Toradora. When watching it I felt the days were 72 hours long. When I finished, I got so depressed since the story was just so great.

Though, not so much depressed as inspired and devoid of any emotion whatsoever. It leaves one empty after viewing. I've rewatched it multiple times...

ef melodies

it owns clannad as up the wazoo so hard it makes me lose faith in humanity when they (you people) can say it was good after 10 + episodes of tear jerking stuff just to be trolled at the end.

this is like twilight ending, now i am not advocating anime especially clannad is twilight (shit), but the concept stands as:

you watched it

you got trolled

you still liked it

wtf

One of the best shows to be ever pumped out of A-1

The fact that there was no season 2 is as depressing as when the show ended

There is a movie for 2014.

I found parts of Clannad to be enraging. I can see why people like it, but it's not that great.

The Place Promised in our Early Days and The Girl Who Leapt through Time. It isn't that they were the best anime ever, they just left me with a feeling of profound emptiness.
