Plot Holes in Anime and Manga
Posted 10/22/13 , edited 10/22/13
Title is self explanatory.

Got any?

For Attack on Titan, I don't know if this is a "plot hole" but...

Now here is a MAJOR, MASSIVE plothole for Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle that is SO obvious and makes the entire plot of the manga utterly pointless (more for people who have read the complete manga)...

Is Cinema Sin's not enough for you? We have to make a thread specifically about Anime? I'm in.

Remember in Sword Art Online, when our blue haired buddy Kirito used up 12 episodes of plot in the 3rd episode?

How during that 3rd episode, he obtained an item that brings someone back to life(if used within 5-60 seconds of their death)?

And how, in episode 16(I think?) Asuna dies and he's all NOOOOO and Red-haired Kleenex dude, who's holding the item, is LIKE RIGHT THERE, WITH THE CAMERA STARING AT HIM AS IF HE'S GOING TO DO SOMETHING IMPORTANT?

Yeah, they don't bring her back with that item, she just doesn't die because A WIZARD DID IT.

Plot-hole achieved. The LN's have an excuse, but the anime does not!

Imagine if they used that to bring her back, then she was kidnapped, THEN they climbed the tower, THEN THEY FOUGHT IN THE GOLDEN PALACE INSTEAD OF TEASING US ABOUT IT.

Sorry, that whole scene ruined SAO for me.......he teased me about the epic ending, he teased me...and look what they gave us instead....

Because a wizard did it, dur. Are you not LISTENING?

More importantly, I have another one.

Remember Dragonball GT? How they had to fly across THE UNIVERSE to obtain all 7 Black Star Dragonballs, using a Dragon Radar of course....altho how it found every Dragon Ball in the Galaxy compared to just Earth is beyond me, even more so how did the Dragonballs Split across the Universe anyhow? Was Pre-split Piccolo-Kami THAT POWERFUL?

To the point, they decided to take a space ship, but because of Pan's stupidity, they leave before Goten can jump aboard. Now, ignoring the fact that a spaceship able to travel anywhere and everywhere in the entire universe within a single Year is unfeasable, could they not just turn around AND PICK GOTEN UP WITHIN A FEW SECONDS?

And don't get me STARTED on Goku forgetting he had the ability to instant-travel between any two points in existence(Even heaven and hell are possible locations for him to teleport to) Only to revisit the issue 15 episodes into say "Oh yeah I can...oh wait no, I can't do it..might as well not try to relearn it"

Free! always struck me as an anime that wanted to be a yaoi, but didn't quite get there.

Plot holes: they exist.

Too bad so sad. Ha8rs gonna h8t is what I say.

As far as they go, I don't really care too much about them. Pointing them out doesn't make me a better writer or a better consumer of anime. Acknowledge them if they're troubling and move on. Like in The Eccentric Family when the railway car can suddenly fly. Plot hole? Who cares. Not the point.

I think a lot of people miss the forest for the pit dug at the edge of the trees.

That's...not a plot hole. I guess you could say it was a bit sudden, but they made it fly with the wine-powered antigravity thing seen in an earlier episode, so it wasn't even really a deus ex machina (which is also not a plot hole). A plot hole is some kind of inconsistency between two scenes, usually one that isn't immediately obvious. Such as, maybe someone is great at basketball in one scene, and a few episodes later someone throws him a basketball and he thinks it's a soccer ball.

Otherwise, yeah, it does tend to be something people love to point out and jeer about regardless of whether the hole actually matters.

Well, first, they didn't make the railway car fly before. It was the house that ended up getting smashed. I'm...actually not sure why I chose to use that (other than it bothered me when people complained about it), since I know it isn't a plot hole. Bad example choice on my part

I guess the point of my post was just to say that I think people are way too quick about jumping on things for being "deus ex machina" or a "plot hole." Just because those things exist doesn't mean that they are bad. It's like in my writing workshop when people throw out the word "cliche" and bash people on that alone. People trying to be smart without even thinking about what they are actually saying.

Agree. And it's even worse when they don't use the terms correctly. Unfortunately, it's easy to throw around terms.

This article has some nice examples:
