What about Eita from OreShura? In the earlier episodes, wouldn't have he been considered asexual back then?

Probably more aromantic than asexual. It wasn't sex that he had an aversion to, but love. Even then his aromantic nature was driven by the fact that he viewed it as a distraction from something he considers super important rather than him not being interested in love at all, in fact you could say his aversion to romance stems from his love for Chiwa and his desire to become able to medically fix her frailty.

D'aww~!!! Thats' so sweet of him.

Great topic! I was just wondering about this the other day so appropriate timing much.

Madoka Magica: Kyubey & the other Incubators are canonically both. They are also the most extreme (and stereotyped) example I can think of since they are genderless aliens who do not reproduce sexually at all and in their culture consider those who experience any emotions to have a mental disorder. /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\

Death Note: We've already had Light suggested but I'd put L up for consideration too, either as both or only as an asexual. He's also a possible autistic asexual.

Kuroshitsuji: Sebastian Michaelis is also potentially both. In general demonic characters seem to either be highly sexualised or are made conspicuous due to their lack of apparent sexual attraction to humans and other demons. At the very least they are often presented as being aromantic.

Natsume Yuujunchou: Both Natsume and Tanuma could be asexual &/or aromantic. Even in terms of shipping some describe them as a romantic asexual ship or as being AA soulmates/life partners.

Every time I see this thread, I think it's "aromatic", not "a-romantic", definitely needs a dash. :P

I'm pretty sure that's only in fujoshi day dreams... not that I'm knocking it.

You missed my point, hun. I said that even those who ship the characters seem to do so in an asexual/aromantic way. A relationship with no sex and potentially no romance either is not the stuff of "fujoshi" dreams.

To be clearer this isn't just that some people might view them as "fluffy innocents" etc, some people explicitly state that they interpret each character as being asexual and therefore any relationship they might share would be influenced by their asexuality.

I think it says a lot about Natusme and Tanuma's characterisations that people can consider it in character for them to have a bond that is asexual, and maybe aromantic as well, but still be soulmates.

I hope that made things more comprehensible?

Tsukasa from . Hack//Sign I'm pretty sure has no interest in sex or romance. The thing he's got with Subaru... I'm not sure what you call that.

Not right now; it's not something I've thought about before, some others might come to mind later.

Most of the characters I can think of though are just shy, withdrawn, intimidated by (or downright terrified of) intimacy, or shouldering a massive guilt complex that they're punishing themselves over, rather than asexual or aromantic.

Revy (from Black Lagoon) is a possibility. I'm not sure though.

Any others I can think of have already been mentioned.

Lloyd from Code Geass pretty much declares his asexuality when he's talking about his impending marriage. He's too busy being a sociopathic mad scientist to give anything else much thought.

I'm fairly certain Yuuki Nagato from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would count, being more or less emotionless. She does display some amount of care for her clubmates, but that could be argued to be because of her mission, and she never comes close to showing any sort of romantic or sexual interest in anyone.

I would argue against Osaka's inclusion here. She listens just as closely as the others during the drunken Nyamo scene, and comments on it afterwards, so she does seem to have an interest in sexual matters.

I'd argue against Hachiman here as well. His apparent lack of libido appears to me to be a result of it being very well-suppressed. Hachiman doesn't like hope, and thus refuses to entertain romantic or sexual notions because he's convinced he'll inevitably be betrayed by such thoughts. I did much the same thing when I was younger, even intentionally deflecting advances made towards me, just as Hachiman does, because I couldn't shake the possibility that I was misinterpreting things. Hachiman's like that: clueless by choice.
