i'm one of those people; i'm just too blunt which probably means the same as insensitive. :/

i say to my sister all the time, when she talks too much, that she has a pointy mouth like a finch.

and my co-worker asked me once, "Do my shoes look funny?", I replied, "Yes your shoes look funny." Because they were multicoloured and neon, they looked funny to me.

i suppose that's why i'm still single; i just don't know how to... sweet-talk.

Sometimes it's constructive criticism. Just be what you want to be!

This discussion isn't intended to be about me. I used myself as an example , I'm not trying to get attention.

I get told by my family I am all the time so I guess I am, I don't intentionally try to be, but I guess the way I think must be different from them haha

Mine wasn't directed to you, it was to everyone in general.

Depends on the situation. If they simply point out my flaws I'm perfectly fine with that. Its at least better than being dishonest and pretend the flaws didn't exist, I can't improve if everyone's like that.

If they brush off people's problems and obstacles and even go as far as mocking and.putting them down, they'd hurt a lot of people's feelings and well I hope they don't get angered or sad when people treat them the way they treat others.

If they aren't treating you with sociopathic hatred, it's hardly worth complaining about. At the end of the day, you should be able to either ask them nicely or twist their arm to make them stop teasing you, if they don't hate you.

I'm not insensitive necessarily, I'm very empathetic and can typically understand what people are feeling and why - It just won't affect how I treat them unless it's an extreme emotional state.

I think most people who act like those you described are just messing with people. If that's the case, you should just ask them to stop and they likely will. And if they don't, don't associate with them or get over it. Pretty simple.

I'm super empathetic if I can see your face. Online, in a purely text based world, I can much more easily focus on being right, rather than being liked. Same with peer reviewing papers, for most publications you aren't given the person's name, so it's really easy to just be objective.

I dunno, I wouldn't mind being a near-psychopath like my father. He can be super mean right to your face with no problem. Actually I think he might be the type who actually enjoys it, I've seen him smile while hurting people's feelings. Oh wait, that was me... Ugh... Repressed memories...

For me, I can't do it, your face becomes my face. I've burst into tears a few times in class when a student was going to pieces, and it's super embarrassing, so I hide it by whirling around and marching off into my office. Then I wheel out my extra-greenboard like as if that's why I went in there.... because yeah.... I needed it.... Right....

OP, your situation reminds me of one of my close friends. She is extremely short. I mean, 5-feet tall. That's it. She is insecure about it, and wears 6-inch heels EVERYWHERE just so no one will comment on how short she is. I've only seen her in flats 3 times. And I've known her for five years.

Honestly, I find her height adorable, but I refrain from saying this to her, because I know it makes her angry. Likewise, I don't tell my other friend that yes, his yellow-dyed hair looks ridiculous. Or my other friend that yes, her chronic lateness when we try to hang out together annoys me immensely. Why? Because I have no backbone and don't like to hurt feelings.

I wish I could be a little more straight-forward with people. Even strangers. I lie my face off to strangers, give fake complements, the whole deal. I don't even know if it's because I have true empathy for them, honestly. I think I do it for more selfish reasons. Maybe confrontation, in any form, just makes me THAT uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just THAT fragile when it comes to someone possibly disliking me. I don't know.

In most cases, I appreciate it when people tell me what they are really thinking. It may be hard to hear at first, but in the long run, it benefits me more than lies. I just wish I could bring myself to give the same courtesy to others.

Another thing, on the topic of height. At 14, you should still be growing for a while. Two things to keep in mind, get proper nutrition and get proper sleep. While genetics are a limiting factor, taking care of those things should at least help you obtain all the height your genetics *could* give you.

Not that I'm a doctor or anything, I've just seen a number of articles over the years linking poor nutrition and bad sleep habits to shorter heights. Also shorter life expectancies. Which you'd think would cause me to change my lifestyle, but I haven't become that disciplined yet...
