How to choose between following an anime on a weekly basis, and watching it all at once?

I don't know why, but this season, I have 14 anime in my queue. (15, if I include RWBY, but the season is ending in a couple weeks... right?) I've been struggling to find time to watch all 14 episodes each week, and it's insane to think that I could easily finish a whole series in the time it takes me to catch up for the week!

I didn't have this problem in the spring or summer seasons, where I was following only 5-8 shows in the whole season and it felt manageable. But this season has been pretty different in that for each and every show I have in my queue, I can find at least one good reason to keep up with it on a weekly basis. There are some that I thought I could drop, but I waited until the third episode or so and have been drawn into enjoying them! I have a horrible habit of finding something to enjoy in almost all anime I watch. (And as a result, I usually feel compelled to finish what I started) :sweatingbullets:

Maybe it's normal to follow so many shows, maybe it's not, but as a person who's relatively new to anime, I'm not sure what to think... >_> Part of me is really tempted to put a bunch of shows on hold until the end of the season, and then watch them all at once, but it feels like I'm picking favorite children or something! And to make things worse, some are running two seasons, so I can't even tell if I should follow those weekly or not! >_< And then there's the satisfaction of waiting each week and discussing in the comments and-- *sigh* too many factors... -__-

How do you all pick and choose your anime? Do you follow everything weekly? or choose to wait until the series is done, then watch it all at once? And how can you tell which method has a better effect on appreciating/understanding the series?

For anyone interested, here are the shows on my queue this season:

I'm sure this is ridiculously noobish of me to ask, but yeah, it's been bugging me quite a bit! XD This is my first time posting a new topic here, so if I've done anything wrong, am in the wrong place, or a similar topic already exists and I couldn't find it, just let me know/close the topic/whatever happens here... >_>

I say pace yourself. If you keep doing that, you might end up being turned off of trying to play catch up.

I know that I felt a bit downtrodden when I took a similar load a while back.

Enjoy the shows as they come. It's not a race.

I watch my shows on a weekly basis so I can participate in discussions.

Of course if I'm watching an old anime that I missed then yeah no choice but to go through it in 1 go.

In the end it boils down to personal preference, so it's your choice on what to drop for now.

I put a preference towards Action heavy shows, and save the dramatic or comedic ones for later.
Kill la Kill is a theater like "NEXT TIME ON KILL LA KILL" style anime, and Beyond the Boundary is similar. They're both shows that work week by weak, able to grab your attention the moment you start watching it! Code Geass, SAO, Fate/zero are all shows of the past I put in this category.

Comparatively, I find Nagi no Asukara is a far better piece meal anime, and should be enjoyed at your own pace. I'll probably watch it 2 episodes at a time, and I'm currently doing that to other such anime. Say "I Love you" and Ef a tale of melodies are on two series I also take piece by piece. Dropping it should be easy, just watch all you can and wait a few weeks to get a big old story!

Log Horizon, Arpeggio, Kyousougiga, Strike the Blood. I find them all iffy in pick order. Watching it at once or in pieces should be no different, and I recommend you drop one or two of them. You won't get goosebumps at the end of an episode shouting NOOO I WANT MOOORE. These ain't Walking dead, the fist category is Walking Dead.

Comedys like "My mental choices" and "I couldn't become a hero" are your choice. If you don't find it funny but do find it interesting, might as well save it for later. If you think it's Hilarious, that won't change if you wait a while. That said, these are good shows to watch if you have extra time and nothing else to catch up on.

I would rather a series finish and just marathon it.

Then again I have no patience at times and can be annoyed by cliffhangers so I found it easier personally to wait until a season is over then marathon it

1 exception I made was a couple years back for Macross Frontier :)
Also I did watch like 2 others that were week to week on here (I started watching before realizing they were continuing, now I check better)

I hate waiting!

Do you enjoy every single show you're watching? I am only watching 3 or 4 but it seems like only one. I want to watch Nagi no Asukara as soon as it comes out, but I could care less about something like Kyoukai no Kanata or Golden Time. It is more like priorities I suppose. The shows that interest me I watch immediately, but something I wouldn't mind being late watching, I end up marathoning it at the end. Which seems like almost all of the shows I'm watching, heh...

I prefer watching a whole show over a few days rather than watching an episode a week.

It seems like this is the case of Japan's lineup every season now for the past months/years.

Except if you're a monster like Mr. Stark here. Then you can pretty much volumize the watchlist. "LAWL"

In all honesty though, I can't figure out how you do it.

I'm pretty much home at the office with probably more free time than you, and I can't even get myself to watch more than one episode at a time.

Idk, I guess dedication is part of it? I also lurk on some other boards and sometimes browse through recommendations for older shows. When I spot something decent, then boom, I click that play button. Usually though, I check my backlog and I do remember some of the shows I set to higher priority than others. Oh and the manga/LN I read sometimes that gets anime adaptations are stuff I get interested in if the original material is decent enough.

Now to steal one of zendude's lines. "LAWL".

You're a different kind of monster. "LAWL"

Nice talking to you again. You should visit /AMP/ once in a while.

Anywho, I've contributed my part on this thread. I'll leave that there. "LAWL"
