Post Reply A new Manga subscription
Posted 10/30/13
Well honestly, it feels a little forced to have to pay more for manga, but also throw in the drama shows cost/benefits as well. It's not as if it's bad, but as a person who has no interest in J-Drama, etc, it seems like I'm paying more for what I don't really need.

Thoughts? Is this already being thought about, or?

The way I see it is that while you aren't getting a special discount, you also aren't really paying extra.

Anime membership: 6.95
Manga membership: 4.95
Total: 11. 90

That's the same as All-Access membership. Drama is a bonus for those who might like to try it, but if you don't want to watch drama it's not like you are actually paying any extra for it.

I honestly think it sucks we have to pay extra for it. Was looking forward to reading coppelion for weeks once they announced it, only to find out I need to pay even more than I already do. I think manga should be included with the anime membership, and their decision to not include it is extremely disappointing.

With an Anime Membership you do get access to the most recent simulpub chapters, so it's not like you don't get any manga at all.

So, CR is now offering a new product--a manga subscription. When they started up the Crunchyroll store did you think they should just start giving you stuff from the store for free? I'm honestly baffled as to why you think all the manga should be included with the anime membership.

I think it would be a good addition to the membership, because I have no interest in asian drama and to be perfectly honest paying £8.99 a month for a couple of manga series is just too expensive, at least for me anyway. I'm not saying it's horrible, just disappointing.

Let me explain my opinion on the matter.

For a whopping 5 extra dollars a month ( from anime to all access subscription ), I gain access to 12 manga titles. Now, I don't expect them to have many out the gate, but I expect they will keep the rate the same for the subscription. So I guess my point would be that we're paying more money for not a lot of content just yet. I also can't even go back past chapter 200 ~ or so on A Town Where You Live, so the lack of actual chronological chapters is also a concern. As well as the laggy system used to view it ( not sure if due to traffic on the site ), but it makes it quite a hassle to try and pick up these manga series when I can't even start from the beginning & have to pay 5 extra dollars a month for not a lot of titles.

I'm sure people were probably making the same argument when the anime/drama subscription was launched when CR was in its early days, but it seems a little odd seeing as gaining rights to an anime series ( to stream/simulcast ), and manga are quite different depending on popularity.

Too me I'm not really in rush because I read Japanese, and I'm busy these day. so I'm going to wait for these stuff to be fixed and have more title to chose. also if they didn't readjust the price for the manga, or do anime/manga subscription offer, i'm just going to wait a sale on subscription hopefully on Thanksgiving sale.
I also want to wait for Manga Android apps, because I don't like reading manga on my PC, I rather reading them on my tablet which I bought exclusive for this.

Update: I just notice that the app is out already. I wonder why they didn't link it at their manga page, and I end up have to search it at the store.
now lets see how good the app is going to be.

Update: Pfft, I can't log in because i'm not manga or all access premium member. seriously how do you want people to test the app to see if it worth paying or not. at least put a free trail version or something. I'm already disappointed.

Just wondering, but would it be possible to add a manga subscription on top of an existing anime subscription? I think I might like to try that right now just for a month if this is allowable.

Part of the problem is for all the serious I wanted to read, that's really all you get access to with the sub, as well. Fairy Tail, Attack on Titan, and a few others only have the last few chapters. And if the news post with the FAQ in it is anything to go by, we won't be getting the previous stuff because the deal with Kodansha excludes anything that has been released in a book/ebook.

There are some free chapters to try the app with; After going through the explanatory screens the last one has a slider with titles you can tap on to view the newest chapter of that manga.

Tap "Take the Tour!" and go to the last slide, from there you can access the titles.

Since there have been numerous requests (outside of the Feedback forum) for this, I'll go ahead and make the request here for an Anime/Manga bundle subscription. Since Anime is $6.95 and Manga is $4.95 a month, which totals to $11.90, perhaps a bundle package with these 2 that is less than $11.90 a month?

Personally, I think the All-Access is pretty cheap at $99.95 for a whole year which is equivalent to about $8.33 a month!! I think most people forget this! The main problem with this is that almost everyone thinks that they are paying for something that they don't want, which is the Drama subscription, hence the need for the Anime/Manga bundle subscription. Funny thing is, I bet if the All-Access subscription was re-named to an Anime/Manga bundle subscription, and the same pricing was kept (as what we have now for an All-Access), we'd get more people to jump on board for that because people would think that they aren't paying for something they won't use (as in the Drama).

This is my thought too. I'd like to try this out for a month without having to wait for my current plan to expire (or cancel early )
