With the manga site going live today, I'm sure lots of people have things they like and don't like, bugs they've found and ideas for improvement.

These are my initial notes:

1) When I'm reading on my PC in Firefox, the mouse cursor is really slow when it's moving over the reader.

2) The zoom settings should stay constant when you flip between pages.

3) On the webpage you can turn pages with the scroll wheel, left and right arrow keys and the page up and page down keys, but in full-screen mode the arrow keys are the only things that work.

4) When zooming in on the page, there should be a better way to pan around other than click-and-drag. I think the up and down keys and the scroll wheel should both control navigation within a page.

5) As more series get added, a queue is going to be absolutely necessary. Preferably there should be an option to sort by the most recently updated series.

^Absolutely this!

Plus, like the anime queue, we should get notifications when new additions have been made to our queue.

I've also had problems with the manga app on the iPad. You need an easy way to get back to the list of titles.

So, how often does Manga update, monthly? Every three months? Varies by title?

On the annual plan, I pay $60 US per year for just Anime. Upgrading to All Access makes the annual rate just under $100 (going forward after a pro-rata adjustment for the remainder of my 360 days this year), a difference of $40 per year, or a mere additional equivalent $3.33 per month (past the original average of $5 per month I have already been paying for anime by buying it annually) to get the simul pub updates (plus Drama without commercials if I had time to watch any of that).

I think that's pretty cheap; I spend more tha that on lottery tickets... But I don't usually read much manga, so I don't know the frequency of released chapters. If a published Manga is (I'm guessing) 10-11 chapters per book (and one of those runs about $10-12), and if the current offering of 12 available series each updates once per month, that's the equivalent of about one volume (kind of like getting an issue of Shonen Jump?) for only 1/3 to 1/4 of the price of a printed book, and no ads to boot?

Seems like a pretty good deal to me, except I don't know the update frequency in that world. If they release quarterly instead of monthly it would be closer to break-even (aside from the simu pub thing being a pretty big deal).

Am I way off here? And does anyone know the release rate/schedule if there is one?

I just tried to log in the android app, it didn't let me. It say i'm not premium member, so I'm assuming that I have to be premium to be able to read the free manga on my tablet. now this is BS.
they better do something about this or no one gonna download that app.

you have 2 type of release in the list, one is weekly like UQ holder, Nanatsu no Taizi, Fairy Tail, and you have the monthly release, like Nazo no Kanojo. that so far what i'm usually following so i know for sure.

I think it really depends on the title. I believe A Town Where You Live comes out every week, while others may be monthly. Still others are even more intermittent.

Honestly, I bet hpulley would know some of this info.

It would be nice if it listed the release dates per chapter. Then you could see how quickly things are being released.

Edit: some of this is provided in the copyright info per title. For example,

Copyright: Based on the manga "Kimi no Iru Machi" by Kouji Seo originally serialized in the weekly Shonen Magazine published by KODANSHA LTD.

It feels really hard to read, Needs a full screen mode and a more responsive system for turning pages.

Initial rollouts are always tough. Keep up the great work. I know I'm looking forward to using the manga reader a lot.

Should we continue to post problems and ideas here?

This might be a longshot, but in the future, I'd like to be able to (quickly) switch back and forth between English and Japanese. For some Japanese words/phrases/expressions, there's just no equivalent English words, so I'd really like to see this someday ~ I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one! XD

Definitely! While it'd be hard to make a perfect experience for every individual and different preferences, we want to come as close to that as possible, especially as we expand the number of titles we offer.

On the iPad 3 I use, the pages are not properly sized to the screen. The width is being fit to the screen, but it cuts off the top 1/4" from the top and bottom of the page. This can cut off some dialog. I can see it by pinching, but it would be better to fit the height and allow people to zoom in if needed.

What would be really cool would be the feature JManga had, being able to switch back and forth between English and Japanese.

Edit: And now I see that suikojay proposed the same thing.

Personally I'd like to see the following improvements (I may be repeating some):

High Priority
1) Zoom lock
2) Save settings for One Page / Two Page
3) Choice of different background color (ie, Black, White or Gray instead of just Gray).

Medium Priority
4) Better zoom navigation (as in first post)
5) Remove the blank white pages when in one page mode. These are only relevant when using a 2 page spread and are quite annoying.
6) Make the bar at the bottom of the page disappear in full screen (when you aren't hovering over it), or at least create a setting where you can turn it off. A disappearing mouse would be nice too.

Low Priority
7) In the reader, show chapter numbers in the bottom left corner instead of just chapter names. It's confusing to jump to different chapters without any numbers.
8) I'd like to see the most recent Weekly Shounen Magazine chapters bundled together like a magazine (in addition to having them on the series page). It's really just a playlist that would collect the chapters from the latest issue.
