It's great that Crunchyroll is adding Manga, but I don't know how I feel about having to purchase an all access pass for it. I'm really not a fan of the drama, so to be paying $40 a year extra just to access some manga seems rather pointless to me. $10 - $20? Sure, but not $40.

+1 for this.

The manga viewer is not really great, and the quality is not either. Also the chapters are old... I remember Fandom had a viewer like that which people hated. It's great your adding manga to the site but Quality and how it's viewed matters.

+1. The viewer sucks. It needs to improve. Fast.

Also, knowing when the chapters on the simulpub and the volumes are gonna come out and a comment section for each chapter are a must as well.

It's in this exact news:

"P.S. While we try to secure as many countries as possible (and we are launching Manga in 170 countries!), there are a few that can not access the Manga service today (South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Algeria, Lebanon, Belgium, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand), we apologize and will keep working on securing more territory rights!"

Well, that explains everything!! *mutters*

Guess I'll have to stick with MS for a while until this is resolved. Keep up the work, crunchyroll!!

I would just love to hop on the manga express but, with such few selections, I just can't see how its worth the upgrade for people like myself, who have an anime membership. Maybe if I slightly enjoyed any Asian drama, this would be the perfect choice. Only if there could be some sort of anime & manga plan without the drama.
Just saying

Just had a poke around at the service myself by reading a chapter of 'Attack on Titan.' If you're reading this and haven't checked the manga pages out yet, you really should. Crunchyroll just keeps getting better.

Most of the free sites are fan sites and don't make any money off of the mangas (just off of ads and donates) If it wasn't for these "illegal" sites most of us would never have heard of our favorite animes/mangas and there would be no CR. It isn't like CR is sharing a ton of its profits with the makers. Think about it, they get 1,000 people to sign up for a year, that's close to $60,000 with hardly any cost to CR and they still make money off the free members because of the ads. So yea I see a problem with them charge extra for a very limited library.

You're completely wrong. The manga aggregators make literally millions of dollars a year in ad revenue. And they only have to pay for bandwidth, because they're stealing. They don't pay the Japanese artist, assistants, editors, and designers, not to mention the English-language translator, editor, and letterer. Nothing bad will happen to you if you use an aggregator, but the vast majority of them are owned and operated by criminals who don't care about manga, so don't fool yourself.

And the idea that people wouldn't know about anime and manga without aggregator sites... you know fandom existed before 2005, right?

MS actually pays people to scanlate. They are the worst of the worst. If you'd choose them over a legal, free option, you're the problem here.

This makes me even happier than the OP announcement (since I already have NHK TV at my house and Hulu). I have the CR app on my ipad so I can use it to read manga now. Yay!

$40 extra just to read manga online makes this a no-go for me. Not worth the price, especially considering there's only 2 titles that interest me. :/ I think I'll stick to physical volumes until CR either lowers the price or drastically expands the title selection.

Too bad the early volumes of Attack on Titan probably won't be added. (Don't get me wrong; I understand Kodansha wants us to BUY the volumes, but I kinda wish they'd add a few of the early volumes so I could sample it before buying cause I'm not blind buying that one). It's nice to see manga added, but who knows when I'll get around to reading them since my Anime backlog is just massive.
