Most recently? My Little Monster. The manga is actually pretty decent, but the anime just butchers the story.

I need to go back and watch that, started it but had to stop for some reason, loved Noir so much I bought the Madlax series before watching it, something I almost never do.

Phantom Requiem for the Phantom is really good, if you haven't seen that already (same ones who made all the other three). Here's the Funi trailer:

"You had my curiosity but now you have my attention" That looks interesting, I will definitely check it out, thanks!

I personally liked the DVD and TV remote visual novel better. But then I had better control of the ending. As it is requiem wasn't a ... BAD... depiction of ONE of the various possible paths but I didn't really Like it with the passion I enjoyed Noir and Madlax. That said someone who comes to it fresh and unspoiled by the game might come to a different conclusion.

No. I haven't.

belive it or not the only anime that was based solely on a original idea and not a manga, light novel, or game this year was Free

Free was based off of a light novel.

AKB0048 Next Stage was a sequel, but not based off of anything... for the most part.
Gatchaman: Crowds was an original series
Galilei Donna is an original series
Kill la Kill is an original series
Samurai Flamenco is an original series
Straight Title: Robot Anime was an original series
Valvrave was an anime first, and apparently spawned several manga and a light novel...... how?

No, Free is based on a PV. It is not based (story-wise) on any previous media.

Been reading the Blue Steel and I have to say that it's a lot better than the anime. If you just watch the anime without reading the manga it's really good. But you read the manga and you see that you are missing a lot of story in there.

Most yuri anime adaptations fail because they only produce a portion of the series. Like Aoi Hana and... that other one who's name is escaping me now.

No, Free! is based on a light novel called High Speed.

"High☆Speed! (ハイ☆スピード!, Hai☆Supīdo!) is a novel written by Kōji Ōji and is the original concept of the anime Free!, which obtained an "Honorable Mention" from the Kyoto Animation Awards 2011."

Two manga spring immediately to mind. In both of these cases, IMO, the anime is not bad, but the manga blows it out of the water. Those examples are (original) GTO and Love Hina, the former because there is craziness the anime simply cannot show, the latter because it gives Keitaro no easy outs and puts him through a ton more crap.

I can understand that, there are a couple anime I've found out later were VNs that I know I wouldn't have enjoyed as much if I had played them before watching.

The anime stays true to the manga which is nice but when you make each chapter an episode and the manga has 53 chapters but the anime only has 12 episodes I don't think you can be left feeling anything BUT disappointment.

Magi the kingdom of magic (rare case of prefer the manga art to the anime)
Black Butler
Ao no Exorcist
Tsubasa receiver chronicles season 2

thou it been said already:
rosario to vampire season 1 and 2.

i hate it when the anime studio took pieces of the rosario no vampire manga that they like then throw the rest of the plot out of the window. Then rewrite the whole series by focusing only on the love/harem and ignore the dark, action pack master piece that is the manga

Waiting for the last few chapters to be translated was pure torture though. I loved it, much much more than Aoi Hana (which I compared it too). Aoi Hana started out really good but just felt weak in the end. I enjoyed the author's other work Hourou Musuko much more.

Aku no Hana is definitely a work of art as a manga. I have yet to finish the anime, despite the fact Ralph Bakshi is one of my favorite animators (if you get that joke, you are OLD).

Chobits was mentioned. The manga was great. However, I love both manga and anime, and just consider them different continuities.

Love Hina was way better as a manga, IMO.

I never could stand the manga or the anime of Love Hina... my cousin absolutely loved it, but the MC was *such* a putz... I suppose though, if you watch it for the schadenfrude-like abuse the girls subject him to it might be more entertaining.

^^^same author as Love Hina lol

Having read just a little, I can already say Mahou Sensei Negima!

I tried to watch the anime way back when, but I couldn't do it, but I'm loving the manga. The artwork is really good, though I do miss the interactions being voiced.
