I want to know what your favorite obscure anime is.
Sharing these things is a good way to find and spread good obscure anime.

Mine is Dead Leaves.

Interstella 5555. It's like Fantasia with Aliens and Daft Punk

Nice suggestions on both your parts. "Interstella 5555" is a classic, and while I have heard of "Dead Leaves" I haven't watched it yet.

Tonight's suggestions:

Robot Carnival
Iria: Zeiram the Animation

Watched "Dead Leaves" and I remember hearing about it's development years back.

Awesome pick!

My friend actually told me about that one. I think he said it was either actually Daft Punk or like Daft Punk.

My favorite is Cyber City Oedo 808. I just love the over-the-top 80's cyberpunk. In just one episode a feminine David Bowie flies up to a space station where he fights cyborg saber tooth tigers that shoot lasers before fighting an immortal psychic vampire and launching an anemic girl into space.

...damn.

I'm gonna check nyaa for this once I get home.

Oh, and for anyone who hasn't heard of it, there's an anime called Tonari no Seki-kun. It's top-notch comedy in my opinion, and you should all check it out. The episodes are about 7-10 minutes long, so even if you don't like it, it won't waste too much of your time. I'm suggesting it here because I don't see a lot of people talking about it online (Episode two is my favorite so far).

Another one I like is "PuPiPo!" though it's definitely not for everyone and the generally silly sound effects are enough to turn most people off to the show. I don't know, though. I never noticed them until I watched it with someone else and they pointed it out too. I hope this doesn't ruin the show for you.

Tenshi no Tamago and Dead Leaves were really good.
I find sadly not many people have seen Excel Saga or Speed Grapher, and I love both of them. But maybe I'm way off base mentioning them, I don't exactly... leave my house or have friends.
I've heard of Iria: Zeiram the Animation and never got around to watching it.

I've heard of Speed Grapher but not Excel Saga.
I'll check them out when I'm done with Serial Experiments.

As for not leaving your house or having friends, I think it's fine if someone doesn't have friends or leave their house as long as they're OK with it. The only reason it's seen as bad is because society says it's bad. It's a baseless opinion, if you ask me.

On top of that, if you found these by yourself and not through recommendations, it doesn't ever matter if the anime is mainstream or not because in your condition, you're finding anime purely out of trial and error. In addition, you don't have anyone telling you what to think about the shows, so they're your true opinions. Correct me if any part of this seems wrong to you, I assumed a lot of information.

Yeah, I've watched a lot of anime over the years. I started when I was 14, and I'm 28 now. I mainly live in isolation due to having a disability. It wasn't always that way, in terms of isolation, however, making friends has always been difficult. I probably know of a lot more *rare* anime, but I don't know what's rare or not, and I also forget the titles of things quite frequently. For instance, I'm not sure of the popularity of Baccano!, but I really like that show. Is Vampire Princess Miyu rare? What about Le Chevalier D'eon? I know that not many people have heard of Arjuna, but I like that as well. I do know one thing, that the last few highly recommended shows that I've watched that seemed to be widely popular, I didn't really enjoy them as much as others seemed to. For instance, Fairy Tail, Bleach, Attack on Titan... I finished Attack on Titan, but those shows are all average to me. That being said I seem to like Naruto. Haha.

I have almost no point of reference for what is /very rare/ and whats entry level chaff, aside from the obviously huge series'. Mononoke was really good imo. I liked Dead Leaves but don't really care for anything else Imaishi has directed. I liked The Tatami Galaxy as well. Angel's Egg is godly as is Kanashimi no Belladonna. That series that the Aeon Flux guy did, Alexander Senki, is decent but I'm not sure if that judgement is based solely on Aeon Flux nostalgia or what. Time of Eve I thought was also good for the themes it explored which I know other series tackle as well, but I think it did a good job of going "we're doing this one thing and exploring these sides of it and that's it." Uhhhmmmmm Hoozuki no Reitetsu I also enjoyed watching just cause I thought it was super cute.

I think it's kinda cool to be lost with no information and wandering in the sea of it all.
