Ok so First) this is my first forum topic so I hope nothing I am doing is wrong here.

Second) I didn't see a topic about this going back like two months, but if its a double you can scrap it.

Any whooo on to the post!

I am new to the manga world, like less than 6 months reading really, but I have noticed it seems that a lot of manga, if not all, is released chapter by chapter until it is put out as a volume or something.

So my question is do you read as chapters are released? Or do you just read when a full volume is out?

Me personally I can only read full volumes, I barely can stand waiting weekly for episodes of Anime (rarely do actually, usually wait for the season to finish and then marathon it all) so I know I wouldn't be able to read a Manga only a chapter at a time.

I only ever buy and read complete volumes of manga from my local bookstores and online bookstores

I buy both tankobon and monthly magazines and now that manga is on Crunchyroll I will be reading volumes and chapters here too so I read both chapters and volumes.

Some I'm glad I read in volumes as the suspense would kill me waiting for the next one but then... the suspense waiting sometimes a year for another volume can kill me too so there really is no winning unless you wait for the entire series to finish and read the whole thing. AND then if they make a spinoff series then you still aren't done LOL

Yeah i'm nowhere near the point yet in my collecting of Volumes to have to worry about waiting for the next volume... just have to wait for my next paycheck... but thinking about it I think I would go mad waiting for the next Volume to be released, and I think all the Series I am collecting is still releasing Volumes (Fairy Tail, Kimi ni Todoke, and Magi) so I may eventually get to the point of having to wait for Volumes to release. Though that is far far far down the road and I will probably find more series to start collecting in that time since, like with Anime, once I start one series, I find another series that looks shiny, so I end up getting like 5 different series I try to collect/watch.

Yes, it is a slippery slope. I started reading one manga series. I got tired of waiting for the tankobon so I bought the monthly magazine it runs in. I noticed some other titles that I liked so I bought the tankobon for them as well. Then I noticed there were anime for some of them so I watched the anime. Then I noticed there were other anime series so I watched those. Some of them came from manga so I bought those manga. Some came from novels... so now here I am currently reading over 50 currently publishing manga and novel series. No lie, no joke, over 50. Some I read monthly if available, others I read when a new volume comes out every 3-12 months. Needless to say along with the over 40 anime series I am currently watching I don't have much time for anything else... so be warned! This stuff is highly addictive!

I read on a per-chapter basis and buy the volumes later. I'm too impatient to wait however long it takes for NA releases to catch up with the Japanese releases. But I do buy them once they're available. I prefer buying volumes in a digital format for my kindle - takes up less space.

I am super happy that CR now does simulpubs. Hopefully, as time goes on, I won't have to break the law to read any manga on a per-chapter basis.

Depends on the series, but mostly its if it is already over, not completely translated or on hiatus I usually buy/borrow the volumes, and if its ongoing and maybe weekly i will read it chapter for chapter

I rather read completed series, just so that there's no cliffhangers, but if the synopsis interests me enough I'll read it until I get to the end of the then current chapter.

I'm just as bad with being unable to wait. It drives me up walls for days getting stuck on epic cliffhangers when it comes to those monthly releases. So I will hold out for the entire volumes when it comes to manga I follow with really intense story arcs. Smaller arcs I'm not so bothered following chapter by chapter, because they have a softer impact. But I made mistakes getting caught on those big ones before, and it wasn't pretty, lol.

I read full volumes, I don't really like just reading a chapter or two at a time when they are released. I'd rather wait so I could read a few at one time.

I prefer full volumes because I hate the feeling of waiting.

Complete volumes I tend to wait for chapters to build up so I would have more to read and not feel so desperate to wait...
