... you know, when you make a post saying "look at this horrible thing someone said!", you know what you're doing? You're giving them an audience.
The internet is full of idiots who are going to saw awful things, because the world is full of idiots who are going to say awful things. But it's also full of people who aren't going to say awful things. And people who are going to, you know, not be racist. People who are going to vote for the person you like. Enough people that that's who won.
So a few fans of Bieber or whoever are gonna hit low in response to their loss (their fandom's loss, not their personal loss. The fact that they take it so personally shows how immature they are.) By reposting their remarks, you're giving them a louder voice. Why would you do that? Why not just be happy you won and they lost?
It's not even like you're calling them out - you're posting about how hurt you are. That's letting them win. You're letting them ruin your (fandom's) victory!

If the awards show itself had been racist, that would be worthy of a news story. Like, if they'd tossed votes because they weren't comfortable giving an award to someone of a certain race (or religion or gender or sexual identity or whatever). Or if they'd had a performance segment with racist jokes. That would be worthy of a news story.
"A few people are being jerks on the internet!" though? That's the opposite of news. Don't give them attention.

On November 3rd The first ever YouTube awards took place. Of course, many huge artist were nominated.
One category was " Video of the year". Artist such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Selina Gomez, etc, were nomines.
There was one artist however, (Or should I say ''Group") in that category that stood out the most. It was none other than the amazingly beautiful and talented K-Pop group "Girls Generation". I am a huge fan, so I was watching the polls nearly every day up until the award show, and they absolutely SMASHED every other artist there was.

Then the show ended, and, well..... take a look at this for yourself.

Acceptance speech from Girls Generation member Tiffany at award show.

And here is a music video from Girls Generation. (If you are interested.)

I have no words.....other than this.

THIS is why Americans are hated so much by other countries.
THIS is why the music industry is going to complete shit.
I'm so ashamed to even be human.
And as bad or offensive this may sound to most...I take racism rights over gay rights ANY day! If you must know why....open up a History book.

Some of you might think I'm over reacting, but really, how is something like this " Not that bad." or " Something that shouldn't be taken too seriously." This is the future right here. Plain and simple.

And please...don't try and start flame wars with me or others. The whole point of this is that hatred needs to stop!

"You don't deserve a point of view, If the only thing you see is you." -Paramore

Definitely interesting read. I'm not sure its too much a racism problem and more of a just "hostility/inability to understand others/hating" problem. If the more popular tweets regarding the matter involve sexist remarks instead of racist ones, would the story have changed much?

If I went to Girls Generation and said a racist or a sexist comment, I think they would be affected by it either way(If I was relevant lol). Affect by the same amount? Maybe not but still enough.

Not to take away from your post though. I still think racism is a big problem. But just hating in general is more of that. I don't think the majoriy of these people complaining are bothered by Asians. But they most likely just feel like having power or having attention (which as many has said, people tend to do on the internet).

It sucks but we just have to do what we can do.

This.

I honestly do not see the point of this thread. Some people said some cruel things on the internet, yes. Happens every day. It's terrible, yes. But, what do we have here? Publicity. We are giving these people exactly what they want.

Also, just because someone acts stupid, ignorant and hateful, does not give anyone else the right to act stupid, ignorant and hateful towards them. Lead by example. Now, let's all get along!

I feel like this is one of the main reasons why other countries make fun of us... when you think about it, most of the songs I hear on the radio in America is about breaking up, one-night flings, dating, partying, and most of the same crap. Other countries actually EXPLORE their music more. If America's diverse, then they should get over it and move on. Not trying to piss people off, just saying.

It honestly doesn't matter what race they are, the losing fandoms will find something to fault. Period.

They'll be sexist, racist, bigoted, and whatever.

Remember, this isn't just about America but all around the world. It's easy to lose sight of that.

I'm reminded by about something a friend said when I look at this

"stupidity has always been out there, the internet just gives us easier access to it"

lol... @gypsywhore666 awesome internet handle
Stupid people having access to the internet is nothing new. I would have been surprised if there had not been any idiots out there flocking to twitter to express their outrage that someone other than their favorite artist had won the award. Good on the k-pop group that won the award. I also found that Paramore quote fuckin hilarious...

You DO realize that racism is all over the world, right? It's only that America's media is so global, that everyone knows what happens, and therefore uses America like a scapegoat to gloss over their own country's problems, and attempt to make their own countries seem like paradises. America's racism issues doesn't even begin to compare to the problems of other countries such as Russia, Holland, Australia, Asian countries have a lot of it as well what with their lighter skin treatment preference, or treatment of foreigners (just for examples).

You get songs like the aforementioned all over the world as well. For example, K-pop is full of it. Indie-group explore different topics, and there are Indie groups everywhere. Not all songs that are played by the mainstream stations are "shallow" and "typical" however. You get some that dare to make a statement, or run deeper than the traditional "break up songs, etc."

You should read up a bit more instead of generalizing.

Interesting article, For me one of the big problems is that the artists themselves by saying nothing are encouraging these idiots to keep up this crass fandom behavior.

Sorry, can you guys stop generalizing Americans? You're complaining about stereotypes while making some. I know many Americans who are nothing like those brats from those tweets. Like, if something offensive to the Korean Band was trending (ex #ggdidntdeservetowin) then your complains would be understandable, but its a couple of idiots tweeting this. Not one person I follow complained, a lot of people just oversaw that particular award, and the recognition towards the few ignorant tweeters is just what they want. I agree that those people are dumb but stop saying Americans

America's media is so global what with their culture, celebrities, TV, music, etc., that everyone knows what happens, and therefore uses America like a scapegoat to gloss over their own country's problems, and attempt to make their own countries seem like paradises in comparision.

Trust me, I've traveled to many places, and there are problems in every country ranging from racism, stupidity, arrogance, etc and quite often, America is far more accepting. America gets to be the buttmonkey because it has such a global impact, and people always pounce on those that are well known.

America has problems, but it's not the only place, nor is it the worst of the lot.

If we're going to talk about racism towards Koreans, maybe you should take a closer look at Japan.
