I listen to it from time to time here at work, can't blast it since we have visitors come and go all day. if you were to step into my office you may hear it since I switch stations depending on my mood.

my supervisor walked in on me the first time I started working in the office and I was playing some j-pop...he asked me if I was an otaku and when I said yes, he started laughing and told me to carry on as if it was nothing

I like to play Vocaloid songs whenever I'm stuck in a room/car with my brother. Drives him crazy.

As for the question - no. I hide nothing. Then again, I never play any kind of music out loud in public, as I think that's rather rude.

I like some anime music, but I always play all music through my headphones.

On the other hand, people should never hide what they love. It's what you love, so why try and keep it a secret?

Nope. I blast it loud and proud!

If I know someone wouldn't want to listen to it, I don't play it in front of them.

Yeah, that's an In my office or wearing headphones kind of deal. That and there's only a really small handful of anison that I honestly like to begin with.

Now I don't mind playing Japanese Artists over my car or garage stereo, but It's stuff that westerners generally can get into like Nujabes, or Maximum the Hormone. I refuse to play anime themes for other people, that and I usually don't like the songs that productions use for openings.

No!
Music is music. I can tell just how closed off someone is if they would rather say I'm weird than "I just don't like/see myself listening to that kind of music" (much-less you generally don't like it)and leave it at that.

I have a WIDE array of all types of music already(Mostly soundtracks).I have my playlist on random most of the time featuring the whole library. And it's hard to remember every song/track I *cough* "own" *cough*.So sometimes I am thrilled with listening to something I barely get to hear,or haven't heard for a long time. And for me it's annoying to make a custom playlist when what I want to listen to may change depending on mood.

I also aim to be a composer. So closing things like "foreign music" (not just J-pop/anime) off when it could be essential to my learning, guidance, influence and directional taste is something I would rather not do.

And hell. My favorite artists are 2 Japanese artist anyways(A latter of the two inspired me to learn Japanese)..I would rather respect my love for their music, and the fact that they influenced me to a great extent.

I hide my J-pop from everyone- friends, family, my room mate, and I don't really listen to any music in public. I don't want to miss the opportunity to talk to someone new.

I don't hide it. Occasionally, I even find myself singing it while running from class to class wearing headphones (several of my classes are ~10 minutes apart at a brisk walk). I'm sure people think all kinds of nasty things about me, but I don't care.

Why not, I don't play any music loud, out of respect for others, but if they ask, I'll let them know what I'm listening to.

I always have my headphones on out of courtesy, my car is a different story though, I play whatever I want in that. I'm never obnoxious about it though, I never blast it loud enough to annoy people.
When I do blast it, it's in my house.

I always have to respond to these whenever I see the post come up.

I 'hide' it, but for slightly different reasons than most people. It's not out of 'direct' embarrassment. It's because I want to avoid two types of interactions I encountered a lot growing up:

"What kind of music do you listen to?"
"A lot of different stuff. I listen to a lot of music from Japan."
"Oh, you like JPOP?! LOLLLOLloLOolOLoLoL!1"

^--The problem with this interaction is that I am immediately associated with people who exclusively listen to L'arc en Ciel, Ayumi Hamasaki (does anyone listen to Ayumi anymore? I mean really? REALLY?) and who cosplay as Naruto to a Dir en grey show. (Sorry, bad experience here.)

I really don't want to come across 'hipster' here, but I would like to think I am pretty well versed in Japanese music, and 'Jpop' does not strike my fancy. Additionally, I do not agree with the 'J' prefix, because just because it's Japanese does not mean it is it's own genre.

Which brings me to my next personal peeve when it comes to discussing music I like:

"What kind of music do you listen to?"
"Oh, you know.. a lot of different stuff.. I listen to a lot of Japanese music."
"OHMAGAWH I LOVE DIRU AND GIRUGAMESH AN MIYABI-SAMA~! kYAAAH! <3"

I love that people are passionate about music, but.. Just because I like Japanese music doesn't mean we have the same taste. I really like a huge variety of things, and don't tend to use their 'Japanified' names. I like Pink Lady, Sawada Kenji, Norikiyo, Sakai Yu, etc, etc.. So, it's just difficult to have a conversation with someone who just has such dramatically different taste, but somehow thinks we have the same favorite idol.

I know I sound like an asshole, but.. Yeah, I tend to hide my affinity for Japanese music because I find it difficult to deal with other fans. The more I read, the more I realize I sound like a hipster. I just, I'm not.. I...OLAWD AM I IN DENIAL!? Will I start growing a curly mustache?!

I wouldn't put it on blast anywhere personally because thats just how I am regardless of what other ppl think of what i listen too.
Sometimes it just huts my ears lol.
If u dont care and u love this music play it as loud as u want, but be aware if u play it WAY loud people can hear, they can say something to u
although im sure they wont (at least in public) ;D
