^^I hate that. Even though I understand it.

Chances of me buying a show that's only partially through the story=0%

Chances of me buying a show that has come to a reasonable conclusion=100%

To qualify my statement: assuming the show is one I would be interested in buying in the first place.

But Kana Asumi is playing Marika, so she's clearly in it

You are correct.

If anyone reads the manga they will know where the first season would stop. Being that they are 2nd years where the manga is now. It would stop before that. Unless they go with an anime only ending(god forbid)

We've all grown to become deeply paranoid and pessimistic with the anime industry in general lol

If anyone knows where on the official site it supposedly listed it as 2-cour, let me know and I will confirm. I searched EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the news on the official site and there is no mention of how many cour it is.

The only place I've found is the yaraon blog which also says 20 episodes which is a bit of a crazy number. And the same post says Saki Zenkoku hen is 26 episodes which is also wrong, it is just 13 episodes so I think the Nisekoi info is also bogus.

The official site, as I said, lists 4 discs with 11 episodes. That's it.

Wouldn't 11 episodes be even more weird?

The manga is super popular in Japan, right? As far as a marketing strategy goes, not even going for a full 13 episodes (much less 26) is just baffling from a money point of view.
No, 11 episodes isn't that weird. Nisemonogatari was 11 episodes from Shaft/Aniplex. Silver Spoon was two split cours of 11 episodes each, also from Aniplex.

Popularity of the manga has NOTHING to do with how successful the anime will be. Silver Spoon manga sells very well, 700,000 copies per volume but the anime sold like cow manure. Nisekoi only sells 180,000 per volume, much less.

There are 4 discs solicited so far with 2+3+3+3=11 episodes on them. While they could simply solicit 4 more discs for another 11 or 12 episodes it would be odd to do that at this point. If they were going to solicit them one disc at a time like Monogatari it would make sense but they have solicited all 4 as if that's all there is to this season. It would be weirder for them to solicit more later UNLESS they announce that it is split cour, take the spring off, come back in the summer with 4 more discs and 11 more episodes. And maybe do another 11 episodes next winter, assuming it sells in the second season.

It used to be that 3 episodes per disc was weird and indicated 2 cour but lately lots of 12-episode shows like GJ-Bu, Genshiken, et al have been 4 disc releases for 1 cour so it isn't weird anymore.

It is a bit odd for Shaft/Aniplex since Silver Spoon is 6 discs for 11 episodes which is a big waste of plastic so 4 discs is actually more reasonable.

Nisemonogatari was 11 on 5 discs which is reasonable, one 3-episode disc, the rest 2. Two seasons of Silver Spoon, 12 discs, 22 episodes is just too low an episode/disc ratio IMO.

Idiot American question incoming.

Do you know if the number of episodes factors into the price of the disc?

Yes to an extent. Nisekoi disc one with 2 episodes is 7350 yen while the other 3 volumes are 8640 yen each so the 3rd episodes are a bit cheaper which is usually what is done. 2 cour series are cheaper than split cour for this reason as split cour are usually priced like one cour, no 3-4 episode/disc cheaper price. The recent 4-5 disc one-cour series are cheaper and for once, this one is slightly cheaper from Aniplex. 2-cour shows are generally not as profitable for this reason.

I feel like I already know the answer, but...manga/light novels are much more popular forms of media than anime in Japan?
