So. I have used Crunchyroll for two years now + I must admit I rarely have something to complain about if ever - + usually any technical queries are answered instantly. Anyway. A week ago I noticed a pop-up add for Sky1HD on the home page.

Now the reason for this post is to question how acceptable this advertisement is. Whilst I am fine having the site background having an advert or an advert near the header on the page in a small box, having an advert appear EVERY time I open the home page which has been designed to be fiddly to close - unless you move your cursor at a certain angle onto the X actively decreases my enjoyment of using Crunchyroll. As a subscriber to Crunchyroll's services I pay to not have such adverts. I wish to hear other's thoughts on this matter + if possible someone from Crunchyroll's staff to comment on this form of evasive advertisement. As having to close a banner every time I am on the home page so I can click on the latest videos is frankly the same as putting an advert in the content I watch.

Moved to Suggestions / Feedback to ensure that CR staff will see it (they don't routinely read General Discussion).

I don't actually think I've seen the ad behavior you are describing myself.

We do not use pop up ads.

Please get me screenshots of this so I can have the Ads team investigate further.

(Also I would run any malware detection software you have.)

I'm still getting the Sky one and I think I've seen another similar one as well (think it was Sims 3). Though at-least because I'm running OSX Mavericks, the Safari power saving kicks in (I'm not running any plugins to disable or remove adverts) and it doesn't run, which is why it appears pixelated. It's still intrusive though, and annoyingly if you don't move the mouse directly over the close button but another part of the advert it becomes larger vertically.

This happened before to those connecting from the U.K. This was the thread on it:

- ULTRA annoying pop-up ads from today
- http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-802229/ultra-annoying-pop-up-ads-from-today

Not sure what the solution was...

Here is the Sims 3 advert I'm seeing, though the screenshot doesn't really show how annoying it is so here's a video http://d.pr/v/LFhD note how the close button switches sides and the advert enlarges when you go to close it.

For The Sims at least, the provider appears to be Venatus, delivered via ADTECH.

Just checking back in.

Ads looked into this and swatted some hands. If it happens again, let us know!

In the US here, was navigating the site on my phone. Clicked the base Forum link while inside a thread in a sub-forum and was greeted by a popup ad with a timer to close it.

Having to watch a pop-up ad just to access or navigate between the forums seems ... slightly invasive.

I know you don't have any say in it, but honestly that is ridiculous. I've never seen a site before that uses popup ads just to utilize message boards. Videos? Sure. News articles? Yeah. Forums? Never.

Considering the forums already utilize interstitial ads every 5 posts, that kind of double-dipping is obnoxious.
And the bandwidth requirements for serving forum pages is very minimal in comparison to streaming video.
