What is it with anime heroines and scissors?

Ok, so today I just watched the first episode of Kill la Kill (I really should have sooner) and It got me wondering: Why do so many girls in anime use scissors? I mean, its in Gatchaman CROWDS, Kill la Kill (half scissors, but still), Dog and Scissors, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Dangan Ronpa, and I'm sure more, but that's just off the top of my head.
Basically what I'm asking is, is there a reason for this? Some sort of cultural connection that I'm missing? pure coincidence? I dunno. I found it interesting, what do you guys think?

I don't know. I guess it's just a trend? Just like the Imōto or long titles trend

It's not something I've noticed until you pointed it out, to be honest. It's a recent trend, but my guess would be because they fall into the 'nondescript weapon' category as a means of self-defense that doesn't draw attention.

I'm probably way off, though.

Scissors are now the weapons of mass destruction sent from the scissor planet named Scissoria. Fear the scissors....

Hey folks, I'm also intrigued by the recent proliferation of scissors in anime, but wouldn't you know it, there's already a thread about it!
