Yamishibai. To me, it was a surprisingly effective animation style for horror... I'd like to see more horror anime in this style.

Definitely Gankutsuo

I think Katanagatari also has a very unique animation style

Madoka Magica is also one, but mainly only the witches lairs, although I can see how a case can be made for the whole show.

Aku no hana (no doubt there)

any anime done by P.A works. Nagi no asukara, Uchouten Kazoku, specifically.

thats all i can remember at the moment.

I'd definitely go with Aku no Hana. Name any other anime that used rotoscoping.

Lots, it's just usually not that obvious.

The current season does have a lot of unique and beautiful styles, though. Nagi no Asukara. Kyousougiga. Kill la Kill. All very different and wonderful to watch.

Nagi no Asukara is pleasant to look at, but I don't think it does anything too interesting with it's animation, which is disappointing coming from P.A. Works.

For me it'll have to be Kaiba.

Pretty much anything by Yuasa is unique.

Soul Eater, Gatchaman Crowds and Kyousougiga all come to mind quickly.

They have unique art styles, but the animation isn't all that unique.

Someone who hasn't been mentioned yet (on the first page) is Osamu Kobayashi.

I'm glad someone said Gankutsuou, since I didn't initially think of it. I think it was one of the first shows to used that fixed pattern style.

Mm mm and tell me how those things are different?

^If that sounds a bit confrontational, well, I am a bit peeved. But maybe it come from ignorance, and if so I'm willing to be corrected.

"Animation" is the act of imitating motion through still images and is often independent of the art style, except in cases like Gankutsuou and Flowers of Evil, where the two are complementary.

I can't say what's the most unique, so I'll just say a few that were different from the rest.

Studio Shaft - their work on the monogatari series are just amazing, almost a glowy feel to it.
They also did Madoka Magica, which was clearly different from the manga.

Studio Production I.G - you can see a bit of their works are usually targeted towards females
so that's why when they do works targeted at both sides, the drawings seems pretty different and high quality in a way.
this is confirmed through watching Guilty Crown and SnK

Studio Sanzigen - from this season's anime Arpeggio of the blue steel, it feels like their animation is a bit of a game...
