Not at all, enjoy what you want in life that makes you happy. I prefer people that are true to themselves like you rather than saying you hate it in public but deep down in your mind you actually love it, lol. You're in the green light.

37 years old guy here. Not watching as much romantic anime as I used to do, but that's because most romantic anime is pretty formulaic so they tend to feel samey after a while. Hull5, don't let it bother you too much. School ain't real life, people in your grade are boys who are so insecure about their manliness and desperately want to appear grownup, of course they'll make a big show of looking down on anime. That doesn't mean they're terrible people, that just mean they're teenagers.

Hold that chin up OP, the best is to come. You'll be more relaxed about it in a few years.

First, that guy is a dick but I had a friend like that he was quick to try to make fun of other but everyone hated him and now no one hangs around him because he did that to so many people. With that being said I would do what makes you happy. I would just make sure you keep a smile on your face and don't let people know it bothers you. It helps to have one friends that will accept you they might not get the anime side of you but they are there at least and not going to make fun of you. I like romance anime it's not something I'm going to scream out loud down the street but I really don't care too much on what others think of me, but i'm older.

I don't know. Is it weird that a 28 year old man watches romantic anime?

Probably. But I'm still going to do it

What I find weird is that you've asked a question where you know 100% of the answers will be in agreement with you...

Not weird at all.

Your post actually reminds me a bit of when I was much younger... I watched this TV show called "Beauty and the Beast" (romantic, fantasy tv series)... my friend did too... I don't think either one of us thought it was weird.

Nothing wrong with a bit of reasurance when you feel the whole school is against you. And often it's the lenghty bit after the yes/no that's important.

I just started watching anime, and I'm kinda, sorta addicted to it. I really only watch romantic animes such as Say "I love you". Is this ok? I started watching romantic animes one weekend, because I came across Inu x Boku SS, after that weekend I was literally hearing Japanese when I wasn't paying attention to what someone was saying. I kinda watch too much, but I am working on that at the moment, still is it weird?

Yeah normally you would be around 18-21 to be old enough to get into the more romantic anime.

Now, you're new to anime apparently, and that's cool. There are a wide selection of shows, demographics, genres, and studios to pick from. Anime is a medium after all, not a genre.

I mean, do people look down on the romantic aspects of movies? Is Titanic a bad movie to watch because it's generic romantic fluff? Nope.

Now, reading your other responses, you're in a private school with only 30 people? Jeez, the chances you're class is racially diverse is lower than the chance you get to see a couple to kiss in "Say "I love you"" You better start...looking up cool videos on youtube that deal with being a teenager....or something. I'm not really edd-judge-medicated to help you here.

What I can tell you, is that odd look is less "oh god he watches Anime, KILL IT WITH FIRE AND SHUN IT FORM SOCIETY" and more "oh...I don't watch Anime....I have nothing to talk about with this person....ABORT ABORT GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
Do you understand what I"m saying here? When people start taking about Cars I tend to give that look, as I don't know or care about Car's.
Then theirs the whole "Everybodys so focused on how people see them, nobody's looking at you" kinda advice and yada yada yada words words I hate words.
But I don't think people just judge something like Anime so easily, the same goes for movies, video games, and various sports or hobbies.
I mean, they could just insult you, and that's far easier to do....sometimes. I don't know, you could be some stone cold gangsta and they're giving you that look out of fear, what you look like is a mystery.

Now what you need, is some Man-ime(Manly Anime)
Fist of the North Star, Berserk, Mobile Suit (Zeta)Gundam.
Now what do those Man-ime have in common with each other?
They all feature relationships and romance to a high degree.
It's often said that Shoujo(Girls) and Sheinen(Adult men) anime tend to have a weird overlap. They both have a romance focus. Shoujo is more idealized while Sheinen is grounded and realistic...and tends to take things beyond Kissing(If you know what I mean...but only sometimes)

I used to work with a guy a few years younger than me, the honest age of 17, probably 18 nowadays. He had some kind of obsession with Shoujo anime, claiming it to be the best. And he only watched Stuido Ghibili movies.
Now, I often had to reasure him, that I didn't mind or care what his preferences on anime were, just that he had to watch Madoka Magica.

And you know what this asshole did? HE REFUSED TO WATCH MADOKA MAGICA! He claimed that it was just a copy of his all time favorite Cardcaptors Sakura, AND NEVER GAVE THE SHOW MORE THAN THE FIRST 2 EPISODES.

Don't be like that guy, watch all the stuff you're told to watch....but not by me, other people that you know in real life. The more you watch, the more you have to talk about.
I mean, it's VERY hard to talk about Anime with a guy who's only seen a few shows, and since you're in school I don't think you've seen enough shows yet...hell, I'VE not seen enough shows, and I've seen a buncha.

And if all else fails, talk about Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing. That will win you friends and any conversation(if you lived in the 90's)

No seriously, Dragonball Z will stand the test of time, I swear it on my fathers broken hip. It's always topical.

If you're weird, (you're not) then I am too. I'm a married mom of four (oldest going into college, youngest starting preschool) in my forties and I watch that stuff. Hubby isn't much into anime, but he does play pc/video games (I do too, that's what we did together while dating) and still watches American cartoons. Oh, and he's older than I am.
