I just started watching anime, and I'm kinda, sorta addicted to it. I really only watch romantic animes such as Say "I love you". Is this ok? I started watching romantic animes one weekend, because I came across Inu x Boku SS, after that weekend I was literally hearing Japanese when I wasn't paying attention to what someone was saying. I kinda watch too much, but I am working on that at the moment, still is it weird?

haha i'm glad that i'm not the only one xD

Not at all. That's the age when I first started delving in anime. I had supportive, anime-watching friends as well, so it was easy getting suggestions and learning about the different genres offered that lead to my current preferences.

Never let anyone tell you watching anime is bad. If your friends start bagging on you for watching "cartoons" just ignore them.

I love me some rom-com anime. Turning 20 in a couple of days and I can honestly say anime is here to stay in my life for a long time! c:

Lol considering Im a 19 year old guy that enjoys the same stuff! I love all different kinds of anime but I do love a good romance story (;

If you like those kind of anime I would watch Waiting in the Summer, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou or Toradora.

If you want to watch a brand new one check out Golden Time

Thanks, it's just a friend of mine found out, and he told everybody, Since I go to a private school and there are 30 people in my grade, nobody kinda looks at me the same. I wasn't really that popular, because I am a little overweight, and the fact that I watched anime seemed to make my situation even worse... I have asked a couple of not as close friends what they thought, and they said it was weird. Nobody in my grade watches anime, and probably considers it taboo.

People... Are still like this? That's just sad. I was fortunate enough to go to a large public school where a good portion of the students liked anime, and another good portion didn't give a hoot. Since you're 14, I would guess you're in 8th or 9th grade? Don't worry too much about it. Those are still "the immature years" for a lot of people. They'll probably get over it.

Best thing you can do right now is just be the better person. Be kind and understanding to others, don't be judgmental like those around you. Don't engage in any fights, verbal or otherwise. Show your friends that it's fine if they think you're weird, don't hold and resentment towards them, and don't be ashamed. This will benefit you in the long run, trust me.

I know right?

We've already had similiar questions asked here and most replies were stuff like ''don't worry, everyone has their own tastes'' or other After School Specials-like quotes

It almost makes me wanna write something like '' Yes it's weird, fatso! Go play some football.''

Ah, come on. He's 14 years old, having a tough time at school, and looking for some support from his fellow anime lovers. Nothing wrong with that.

As AmazingStef said, maybe it's not about getting the yes/no answer... but more so just talking about something that's bugging him.

Don't worry about your peers. What you like is entirely up to you.

More or less, but I only see it in Middle Schools and High Schools where kids still do the whole bullying because of someones hobbies or looks/weight.

Get into college and we're all a little nuts with debt on our backs, so who cares about your hobbies at home... hell thanks to College i've learned the stereotypical "jocks" who would look like they do sports all day can and will watch more Anime than I do, and I work from home so I have a lot of free time...

Pretty much as I have learned, don't give a damn about what others think. Your good friends will stick by you no matter what your hobbies or interests are, hell I got some of my friends who never thought about watching Anime before into the fandom, as for everyone else their opinion doesn't matter in the long run because they are not the ones who will be around with you in the end.

Edit:: I am 22 and watch Romance Anime.

As well as just about every other Genre of Anime, even Yaoi once or twice.

Personally, romance is probably my favorite genre of anime. While, I've never had the issues you encounter in school, I certainly can see how it could be tough. Much like everyone is saying, it's nothing to be ashamed about. Hell, I force my girlfriend to watch romantic anime all the time lol. Ironically, she's into more action based anime.

Stick to your guns and people will eventually respect you for it. I'm not saying go around parading it because people will just think you're being snooty, but don't be ashamed about it. People will always respect people who stand up for themselves and do it in the right way.

And (at the risk of sounding like an old man...it comes up so fast haha), it's not weird at all that you like romance. I remember being 14 and uh...I won't pretend I wasn't crushing on girls and wanting a girlfriend and all of that. So it makes sense to me that you would enjoy shows that show characters around your age and your state of life who are dealing with those sorts of relationships. Of course, this is just my projection of why they might appeal to you, and if that's the reason, I'm just saying it's totally normal.

The only thing I would say is just to remember anime is never going to replace the real world. I think the best thing to do is to take the things that speak to you and move them into your real life. There are good life lessons in anime, so use those to make yourself a better person. Just watching and watching without ever processing is never going to do anything positive for you.

And good luck! Kids can be vicious (I really do sound like an old man :'(), but it always gets better, even if it takes some time.
