The internet is a wonderful, oddly place where ideas float around and smash into each other as bits of text and pictures on forums, blogs, or maybe Youtube comments! Everything's fast and bright, dynamic and beautiful. Even the dreariest of dribble on the internet is all part of this massive conglomerate of beautiful information- all a click away! Everything seen doesn't exist outside the ones and zeroes on the screen, but at the same time it does and it can excite emotions like happiness, anger fear. The best part is though, that the whole world is in on it. A whole world of people mingling with each other and spreading ideas, adding to the big blob of information without even being there sits on a desk or resides in a phone which means no one with the internet is really alone.

Lethargic Leopard Seal here, and what I want to know is what did that sound like to you? What do I sound like to you write now? Conveying tone is hard on the internet. How do make sure your voice carries through the data stream? Is there any way to reach everyone without sounding different to them? Me, I don't think so, but that's part of what's so damned beautiful about the web! People can be anyone here- a pirate, the president, a favorite character- whatever the reader thinks the person is, they are. I kind of don't want that to change either. I like not knowing what I sound like, but what do you think internet people? Do you guys like the idea that your collective voices can change drastically or disappear all together, and if you were that person reading, you wouldn't recognize you?

To me you sound like you're trying to sell me the internet for 8 easy payments of $19.95.

It's like you just mouth farted some rainbows and butterflies. Then, spitted out unicorn nonsense at the very end.

WOW! That is some deep thinking for a 20 year old..that is if you really are 20.. Actually..to me ..you sound jaded. Perhaps the younger generation, who put so much faith in tech...is finding out just how unsatisfying it really is. Or not.

But you do make a good point about "tone". It is impossible to gauge what someone is truly trying to say via internet posts. Am I being facetious? Serious? Sarcastic? Who knows? I know, but you don't.

Don't worry, I'm not pretending to be younger, or more commonly, older, and I appreciate your feedback- everyone's really.

It's hard to describe, but to me personally, you sound like one of those guys who are always giving graduation speeches or motivational talks. But honestly, your profile picture has a lot to do with how I perceive you - but it matches the picture externally well. You sound like a smooth talker - who has good and valid things to say and is great at articulating them, but around whom I must also keep up my guard.
That's just my opinion, and please believe me when I say that I mean absolutely none of that in a bad way.

I don't really care if my voice changes slightly online. If you think about it, this kind of thing was already around when some distant individuals could only really communicate by letter and meet each other face to face very rarely - if ever. I look at the internet like a faster, broader, more anonymous version of the letter, where your voice changes, but is still you. That's just my take on it though.

I feel it's harder to convey myself with text. It's even more perplexing that I don't remember some of the things that I have written in the forums 3-2-1 years ago. I went through them today and it resulted in a much bigger picture. Since I can tell you're probably pretty emotional. (That is what I think) I can tell you that I noticed something about myself. I tend to forget any argument or fallout with a person. It goes in the back of my mind and then it disappears. I suddenly remember something an old friend said about me. (ex friend now), she said "Oh? Meagan? Well you can do anything to her and she will forgive and then completely forget about it, you can do anything". She laughed it off of course. I don't know if I find that beautiful about myself. It's kind of annoying to figure out that I try and get along with the worst of people. This recognition is scary to me now that I'm trying to think of any recent argument I've had. I do remember one from last week. But I know in do time I will forget and move on.

I don't think I can be anything but myself because in the long run we can't keep up a fantasy image without slipping on our toes.

lmao
