Really? So its ok to post pictures of your attractive neighbor and pretend to be him or her because you might have low self-esteem?

I have never bothered to use another (real) persons picture as my own. I just would never want to and would feel very odd doing so. I don't ever want to go through the trouble of pretending to be someone I'm not. I only know how to be me after all.

Exactly! if you're pretending to be something different online what does it have to do with their REAL identity?

I'm not surprised. Some people seem to desire a veil of anonymity over the one they already have on the internet. It's beyond me.

But it really doesn't matter. It's not like it allows them to escape reality or become more harmful to you or anything. It's just a manifestation of their desire to be something or someone else. Lots of people feel like that sometimes. Maybe they are just going through some sort of phase. I don't think that morality necessarily is a factor. How's it fair or unfair? Is something still offensive if the person it is supposed to be offensive to doesn't see it?

Most people here are pretty young, after all. I don't know about you, but I did some odd things and had some odd habits when I was younger, too. Things I have no idea why I did, they just felt like something to do at the time. Of course, I didn't have internet back then, haha. It manifested itself in other ways like in my hobbies and the books I read.

It doesn't matter if you don't think about it or ever see it. Some people might find it hot, who knows? I just find that it's pointless to be so uppity and easily-offended or easily-angered. There's just no point. If something doesn't need to be brought to your awareness and your doing something to change it is either not worth it or can't be done....why worry about it? Seriously. It's not like these people are accessing your bank account or physically harming you. That would be a different story. You can choose how small things like this affect you or don't.

Maybe I'm just really laid-back. But that's how it is for me. My family is hysterical and takes everything too seriously. Probably the reason I turned out like this lol

I did not say that, you did.

Well, we're not sure if an unattractive person would even start a catfish forum like you did.

Besides, if people decided to be honest, cyberbullying would follow.

It's easy to say "you have low self-esteem" when this site itself has animes where the characters have westerner appearances.
(except: Uchihas. Masashi Kishimoto made sure they looked oriental. hahaha).

You have blonde hair and blue eyes, that's like a gold mine for people to buddy you here. Plus, you cosplay? Otaku bonus.

...? It obviously has something to do with another persons identity if someone is posing as someone else who has a real life. What you were talking about was anime... Fictional characters, nonetheless.

Alright. I'm especially weirded out by people who post pics of their kids.

It means you're desired by someone.

But how does it actually AFFECT the person being imitated? The ruse can't last forever. The real person will have the real account or whatever, at the end of the day. As far as anybody is concerned, that person could just stop using the internet and nothing will have ever happened.

If this imitation is never brought to the original's attention, the original isn't directly hurt by it. Even if it is, it all depends on how the original reacts. For instance, I wouldn't care. It's not fairness or unfairness or concern, it is just a tiny issue that matters the same whether it matters or not.

As long as there is no direct effect, like identity theft and some kind of monetary fraud, I find it hard to care about this. It's not like it changes the original person in any way to be copied. If anything, it has a greater effect on the person trying to be someone else.
