Why do people date over cr? Maybe that's the real question

Thanks for the warning, but I never assume that someone's profile picture is a representation of who they really are - even if they're of real people. I mean, its kind of common sense. Profile pictures are more meant as a statement rather than a real representation unless your conducting very formal business (ie. scholastic or job stuff) or if your on a social networking site (which I never use)

Yea, people shouldn't use faces that aren't their own as a profile picture if the person is still living or isn't famous. But those seem like arbitrary distinctions, now that I think about it. If I were to use a picture of Bill Gates, no one would assume that was really me, but if I were to use a picture of Itzhak Perlman, some people would assume that was me, but classical music fans would be able to make that distinction and say "Oh - he's using someone famous." That's an interesting thought which I had never considered before....

But yea, if its just some random person, then I agree, People shouldn't use their picture. But you should never take a profile pic as a representation on a site like this anyway lol.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but sadly, I am not an animated cat. Not yet, at least...

I AM A FACELESS ENIGMA!!!!
I AM THE SHADOW THAT CREEPS BEHIND YOU (depending on the direction the light is coming from in the room)!!!!
I AM IN THE STRANGER IN THE DARK!!!
I AM IN THE BREEZE THAT SHAKES THE TREE BY YOUR WINDOW AT NIGHT!!!
I AM THE DARKNESS OF YOUR CLOSET!!!
I AM THE RANDOM CREAKING SOUND THAT YOU EXCUSE BY SAYING "Oh, its just the house settling."!!!!!
I AM THE DARK, SCARY SPOT UNDER YOUR BED!!!

I AM THE FISH YOU CaNNOT CATCH!!!! FOR I AM THE DARK WHERE THE LIGHT DOES NOT DARE TO SHINE!!!

Of course it's morally wrong. How about I find a picture of you and pretend that it's me? You're making it seem simple and OK, which its not. And I'm pretty sure it's bad decision making regardless.

Damn it, I was supposed to pretend that I never went online today....

Unfortunately, I can't help but reply to this thread.
Thank you, OP, for being so high up on your stubborn moral horse and inviting me into this thread.

I, personally, just use my own photos as my avatar or I find an interesting anime character or artwork. Even on my Tumblr, I prefer not to post pictures of other people (real people). But that's all because I'm very precise about things that are supposed to reflect me. I don't go around and condemn people for using other people's photos though. It's not my place to judge them and neither is it for you. Just because someone uses another person's photo doesn't mean they are stealing their identity. Most of the time, even for the few episodes of Catfish that I've seen, those people are just borrowing faces. The personality is genuine. The feelings are genuine. All they needed was a nice mask. Why is that? Perhaps it's low self-esteem as you've mentioned. But that only stems from people like you who makes it seem as though that image is all that matters.

I find it so damn hilarious the way people are, seriously. We take so much pleasure in pointing out other people's physical flaws like "you're too fat," "you're anorexic," "you're ugly," and then we condemn those very same people for wishing they looked like somebody else. "Oh, it's not right that they're stealing other people's photos and pretending they look like that." Really? Then maybe you should stop caring about the damn pictures for one second and give the person a REAL chance, how about that?

Maybe if it didn't matter whether it's Pikachu or Mikasa or Miley Cyrus or Brad Pitt or that kid who lived next door to that kid who went to school with your cousin's best friend on someone's profile, people wouldn't bother wishing they looked like someone else.

Just a thought.

P.S. Please don't tell me you're against plastic surgery too... because that would just be too much...

My first thought was why is using fake photos referred to as cat-fishing? Another phrase or term should be used, but that is how I personally feel.

This is nothing new though, people have been using false identities for who knows how long online and offline. I personally do not care if someone uses a fake photo (whether it is a photo of a fictional character, a vehicle, a actor etc.) for their account on Crunchyroll, Facebook or any other site since I do understand not everyone wants to share a photo of their actual face for whichever reason.

I know it would be good to know who we are conversing with looks like, but I would not never press for it from that person because it is not entirely important to me and I would not want the individual to feel pressured or uneasy. It would be a problem though if the person is asking you to show a photo of yourself or to participate in web chat and they make multiple excuses to avoid doing so, then I may cease speaking with them.

I post my real pics on the internet, because I'm pretty sure nobody would use my pic (hopefully). Since I'm not sexually appealing or good looking.

Dat font. LOL And I also wonder why "Cat-Fishing"? That makes it sound more odd. >.<

Dunno, but it's great seeing people insult other high horses on their own high horses here, the internet is a great thing, where everybody can be smart!

That's what I do, if there's like a girl who adds me on Facebook or another network I use and she looks suspicious, I just simply ask her to get on TinyChat/Skype/ooVoo/FaceTime/SnapChat.. Like, if they can't and it turns out that they're fake, big deal.

These CR users are so offended by the topic and talk about how they hate Facebook and everything sooooooooo much, they're like 25 years old and over and still try and seem smart over an anime forum smh

I think it's okay if people do those things, whatever makes you happy and feel good is not necessarily the same for another. You're your own man and you shouldn't need to take the piss out of anyone.

That show is hilarious if you ask me, some of those people carry on relationships and those fake identities on for YEARS
When it comes to CR why someone would pose as someone else, that's not an anime character, is beyond me

To be fair, it's a little harder for people who don't look as good as you do (of course, that's assuming your picture is of you).

I don't think I'd ever do it myself, but I can see why someone would, and as long as they don't use it to hurt anyone, I don't really think it's a real issue. If I found out someone was using my image, I'd be flattered (so long as they weren't actually pretending to be me).
