Hi i would like to know why so many of these type of anime are produced. In contrast we have a few shounen like naruto attack on titan and one piece so why so many of romance/drama anime? Its not that i don't enjoy them i just feel we need a bit more variation to our selection.

I feel like there aren't as many romance/drama type animes as you think there are, but that you're actually referring to harems. If that is the case, I don't have a good answer for you, but if I could think of one, it would probably be that it's a perfect male fantasy. What straight man wouldn't love to be surrounded by beautiful women that love him? Since the majority of people that watch anime are male, I'm guessing this thought went through many of the production company's minds before creating harems. I don't know about everyone else, but I really enjoy a good harem, so keep them coming!

Also, in terms of straight-out romance between characters, love and close relationships are abundant in almost everything, harem or not harem. This is just something that people long for, and thus, is a popular topic in entertainment. It also creates a sense of internal and emotional conflict, which adds to the story.

I feel there aren't ENOUGH good quality romance drama animes. This season there are only two main romance/drama anime: White Album 2 and Nagi no Asukara. White Album 2 is good at best and Nagi no Asukara... well it's really awesome! xD

There are a lot of romance/COMEDY animes but I personally love them so the more the merrier. But I would still like to see more serious anime like Attack on Titan more often...

Yeah i suppose i am including harems and the such like romance/comedy as mentioned above me but still romance is an everpresenent subject in many anime and i just feel like we get a lot more of this than something like steins gate or shin sekai yori (though it has some romantic elements)

I agree that it is more abundant, but I feel that if it weren't, anime would lose its sense of humanity in some way (if that makes sense). Plus, love can be very diverse, and as I said, it can add to the plot/story in various ways.
Also...

To be honest, it's really dependent on taste. I'm sure if romance/comedy anime wasn't selling really well, we wouldn't see as much... so that could partially be the reason why we see so many.

It's also dependent on taste of the viewer... some people will view the amount of romance shows as right up their alley, others will just ignore them and watch the occasional action/mecha anime.
