My mom was always against it growing up. It was banned from being in the house for 2 years when i was in middle school. She started to open up more when i introduced her to a few shows she ended up enjoying as well as when I started reading manga. I used to hate reading so once I got into manga, she was so happy I was actually reading something and then shocked when I slowly started reading novels as well. She understands more of it now, though she doesn't agree with it. She does, however, support my choice in watching anime and will buy me pillows and other merch for Christmas or my birthday if it's something I really want, regardless of whether she thinks it's a waste of money.

My mom doesn't care, she just doesn't want me to play it when she is in the room cause the audio annoys her. And my dad's the one that got me into it in the first place so he's cool with it. x)

My parents hate the stuff. Most my mom though, she always is judging me, saying that it's bad for me and stuff like that. My dad doesn't like it, but he doesn't say anything about it. Yet they given up on trying to stop me from watching it cause they both can see that I love the stuff. But I still have to deal with the criticisms though

I can't tell whether they support me at all,
I mean, it's the only thing making my life worth living.
But it can't be too much...

My parents don't care. They know that I'm into anime and Korean dramas, as well as music from there, and they don't say anything. I'm thinking they don't because they know it's my interests and that I'm learning Japanese in college. They even let me borrow their car to go to a local convention once, haha. So yeah, they don't care, and even if they didn't they can't say anything since I'm at the age where they can't even say anything in opposition.

my parents enjoy anime my father likes to watch Naruto and bleach on Toonami and Ive seen them countless of times but they like to ask questions on what happened last episode and its fun telling them about the shows. my fathers favorite show is Baccano because he liked the overall time period of the 1930 and the characters like Lad Russo who where baddass. i think it nice when your parents don't bash on you for what you like or make fun of you it depends on who they are if they are laid back people or are strict parents who feel watching animation is a waste of time. i feel its great to be an opened minded person because that's how i was raised and never to be judgmental towards others preferences in life.

My parents think everything I like is goofy, stupid or boring, including anime. They don't understand it, but they don't particulary care either, but they do ask "why?" a lot.

They are aware I watch anime and would rather see me watching anime instead of south park and family guy. Also my dad has an affinity for kana hanazawas voice

My first experience with anime - My uncle had just come home from a business trip to Japan. He brought with him a TON of BETA tapes full of Battleship Yamato in the original Japanese. I sat and watched for hours. Couldn't understand a DARN thing anyone was saying, but I could understand enough context clues to kind of figure out was going on. That... was in the late 80s,

I can say that I got my daughter into anime and anime conventions, when she was just a wee babe in arms. I can happily say that I taught my daughter to read faster with subtitles. Watching her favorite anime became a incentive for doing chores and homework. Unfortunately, it means I had to suffer through some rather "girly" anime in the early years. There is only so much Mermaid Melody and Sailor Moon a sane person can handle in my opinion.

With that said, because I understand the fandom, I tend to be a little more vigilant about the anime content. For the most part she and I can agree on most shows. There have been a few anime shows that I'm ok with, I just don't watch with her and there are shows that I like, that she could care less about.

I guess it just depends on the parents really. The old adage that "parents just don't understand" is true. But I wouldn't be afraid of maybe educating parents. Some will be open to listening, others, not so much. You know your parents the best. If nothing else, introduce them to something rather tame, like... Sailor Moon, or Cardcaptor Sakura. Work your way up to Death Note, Attack on Titan, or Naruto. You never know... You might find a convert in your family.
