I don't make a point to shove my interests in my parents faces, and they don't exactly breath down my neck either. My parents know i like it but i suppose they don't really care... My dad actually watched a bit of Naruto with my sister, so i guess he kinda understands the appeal but you know...

Well I'm 33 years old so now it's not really a problem. But when I was a teenager I had some issues with my mother. Specially regarding violence in anime. The best suggestions that I can give to anyone are quite simple:

1) Dialogue. Some parents can freak out with some anime because there are not used to, talk to them and explained what do you like.
2) Tone down your excitement. I know this sounds weird but if you are like me and you get excited with your favorite series try to tone done your excitement. It's not a bad thing but some parents might think that you are "way too much into that stuff" if they see you too excited with things that they don't understand.
3) Avoid controversial themes. If you like violent, erotic or BL/yaoi anime or whatever it's perfectly fine but avoid showing themes that your parent might have a hard time understanding. Don't start showing the most hardcore stuff that you like to your parents because the chances are they will freak out. Start by showing some easy to watch anime or manga and explain what do you like about it in easy terms.
4) Don't overwhelm them. That was one of my problems with my parents, I started showing so much stuff that they just got overwhelmed with stuff that they didn't understand. Start slowly.
5) Use the culture card. Show how much stuff regarding culture you can find in anime: from food, culture, traditions and language. Try to show them that you are not just "wasting time".
6) Accept criticisms. I know that it hurts when someone say something hurtful about a series that you love but most of the "mean" comments come from the lack of knowledge. Just focus in the positive aspect and try to avoid starting a big heated debate with your parents, nothing good will come out of it. Avoid conflict.

Anyway I hope I didn't bore anyone but I hope that helps to someone. Have fun!

I've gotten my mother to watch a fair amount of anime over the years and she's liked it all. Monster, Samurai X, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano and the original Full Metal Alchemist are some that we've watched together.
And my dad just um doesn't care. He's never really discouraged me from watching it though.

My mom used to watch anime, but grew out of it, and my dad knows about it from her, so neither of them really care that I watch it.

My parents enjoy Miyazaki and I think my mom watched Darker than Black with my sisters.

But then again, I am 26 and my sisters are in their 20s too, so it is really not relevant.

They don't care, I don't take up any of their TV time so they probably approve more than they reject it

They don't know the diference between an anime and a cartoon.

I usually invite the whole family to see the anime movies I buy. Ghibly movies makes us cry
I have shown them too Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Perfect Blue, Akira, Steamboy, Memories...

... so yeah, they're cool with it
