Actually, my dad watches anime too. After he found out that I was interested in it, he introduced me to FLCL and Fullmetal Alchemist, and I got him to watch Accel World and PMMM. xD

Go for it. My parents never minded my craziness. They gave up trying to understand anime ages ago and are just glad I'm having fun.

Since my parents are Asian and all, they generally don't mind. I do wish a few of my favorite shows didn't have the obligatory fanservice on the cover, though! Makes up a lot of misunderstandings when my collection's being looked over.

My family doesn't really care. I've been watching anime probably since I was 13 and I'm 21 now. I just don't watch it around them because unfortunately there are many elements of anime that can be misunderstood *COUGH*Ecchi. And while i do try to stay away from that stuff many a great anime has at least some ecchi.

I really started liking anime when I was in 6th grade. My mom didn't take it too well...she thought I should have been getting over cartoons and growing up. Plus she didn't like the skanky outfits some characters are known to wear. All in all, she didn't approve and basically banned anything anime related from our home.

Of course that didn't stop me from liking it. lol! By the time I was in 10th grade, we were invited to a panel a Japanese travel agent was presenting at. We went to another city for this panel only to realize - we were at an anime con! There were over 800 people there and once my mom saw that I wasn't the only one in the world to like anime she began to let up and let me enjoy it freely. She had a blast too, and discovered that a lot of anime fans are super nice.

You should take your mom to one of the conventions too! She might get into the things you are into. ^_^

Haha I am a parent, and my oldest is 16. She watches anime, and got me watching it again after a looong hiatus. I wish more kids would watch it. As for my parents, I think my dad really didn't care because he liked the Simpsons and Futurama (he was 77).

If it's dubbed, like I used to watch on Toonami as a kid, they wouldn't know any better. In fact, the language would be the only thing to give it away, which they'd find strange in and of itself. Having gotten back into it recently, the age I'm watching it at would be almost disconcerting to them since they'd think of it as any other cartoon. But since I treat anime with the same sense of privacy as other hobbies they don't really know.

Considering these people have a backwards way of thinking that makes watching a foreign film unattractive and strange to them, they'd probably have a negative, albeit shallow, perception towards any entertainment of Japanese origin. My mother once asked me "Isn't it weird how people speak different languages?", to which I replied "No."

Besides being foreign, they'd probably find the fantastical nature of anime and the caricature of its characters rather juvenile or just stupid. I'd have to laugh at that since we're talking about two grown adults who thought Battleship was a good film. It's just easier to find such ideas of immaturity in a cartoon.

Because of their way of thinking I keep to myself about hobbies and interests. I enjoy being open-minded and thoughtful, whereas my parents possess a subtle degree of self-righteousness that makes them judgmental of anything "other"--sometimes to the point of hypocrisy. Since most of my family are a bunch of backwards hicks I've had to develop a sense of humor about these things since I feel a bit like an outsider.

^ dump the anime hater :c seriously that's be horrible going through that

My mom isn't into anime umm it's not her thing but she's okay with me liking it. My dad on the other hand likes drangon ball z and was totally obessed with an anime called monster which he even watched in japanese when there was no more english dub, I was impressed. Though my dad ain't a regular anime watcher but likes it from time to time. My dad and I even watch anime whe I was younger like pokemon, salior moon, tenchi muyo, yu yu hakusho, and drangon ball z. Also my dad came with me to a couple of anime conventions and took pictures of cosplayers XP

My parents are long in the ground.Only my daughter in law and grandchildren are into anime .The rest of my family has far too many of their own pursuits to worry about what I watch or do.

Posters I see no problem but if your going to get those pillows that have sexy anime girls or hentai like poses on them, I wouldn't get those.
Personally I wouldn't get those pillows myself. I do Haea couple anime hoodies, and a crunchy roll hoodie , no posters yet but no one seems to care
