My Parents are a little indifferent towards it. They don't see it as normal that i have such an interest in it, even when i assure them it is actually very common. My dad especially when he comes and asks why i'm always watching it if i don't understand or making remarks about whether or not im learning Japanese. Nonetheless theyre actually not to harmful, as much as they are misunderstanding. Meaning they know i like it and if i were to buy anime stuff, they really wouldn't say much. Except call me crazy for spending so much on a Kirito Nendo. But they are okay with it and dont usually interfere or block me from my fandom.

(Yet my dad likes a few animes, they just have to be english dubbed XD)

My parents used to be overly wary of my watching anime when I was younger, what with my watching DBZ when I was 9 and seeing characters getting beaten to a bloody pulp and all. Now, if I own DVDs of an anime and say 'watch it, it's good' they will; although I can't convince them to watch them subbed.

As a parent I will tell you that learning Japanese will be helpful and have your parents aid you in doing so. Enroll in Japanese course in High school or Vol-tec addition get a language software plus drawing manga. Ensure that your fundamentally sound in English writing and speech (no slang) I am only giving advise because I lived in japan for years. Please look voice actors and Artists ... American and Japanese. I am concern what my child is watches but if we talk about... she eleven at eleven we watched Soul Eater... there are something we talked about have an Christian background we address something... I realize there are bigger things in life .

My parents know I like the whole manga and anime scene but its really my dad who is really supportive~! We watch anime together and he comes with me to conventions, buys me anime and manga and just listens to me rant on about Attack on Titan or Free! or something~! Everyone in my house plays RPGS anyway, 'cept my mum~! But my other friends parents just don't care and don't talk about it~!!

My dad teases me and my mom is indifferent. I got her to watch an episode of InuYasha once and she liked it, but she never really wanted to try more after that. Both of them think it's perverted stuff. Or they're too stubborn to admit that anime isn't as bad as they think. I explained to both of them that anime is like different genres of movies, but of course, they still think it's all boobs.

As someone who is older than your parent, I would appreciate a teen who is willing to take time to discuss both our feelings on the issue. I would expect my teen to answer my question honestly but bit expect a dissertation on the subject. I would expect them to not put anything that would be to sexual or violent that it would embarrass the family to most of my friends. I would expect you to remember it is your home but the parents house. If you came to me like a respectful adult and not surprise me with a completely unexpected request, I would listen and be more likely to grant your request. (well I would since I like anime).

However you should know your parents best and I would urge you to think about how reasonable they are. If you don't know them this would be a good opportunity to get to know them better.

I've been into anime since I was about 13. My parents were fine with it, but they just lumped all of my shows into 'animes' so they would rent things from Blockbuster (lol now I feel old) of shows I'd never heard of (a few of which were too mature for me - but I never said anything :P). They still don't really know anything about specific shows and say "your animeyz" about anime, manga, etc. But it's something I like, and it's something they don't know much about. So.

Honestly I got a FAR WORSE reaction from my art teacher. She knew what anime was and was convinced that all of it was perverted. i was talking about FMA, Naruto, and InuYasha at the time - all of which are reasonably kid friendly. Egh, people have tunnel vision.

If someone's telling you that it's wrong because it's all pervy, explain that anime is like cartoons. Some are for kids, and some are like the late-night cartoons meant for adults. It's a genre, and it's not all the same thing. Of course if you're under 18 people might not take you seriously because you're a kid, but that's just how life works.

Today, I am 22 years old. I didn't start getting into anime (other than DBZ, Digimon, Pokemon as a child) until I was 20 years old. I introduced my 48-year-old mom to Fairy Tail about a year and a half ago and she fell in love with it. After that I showed her Hunter x Hunter, FMA: Brotherhood, Silver Spoon, SAO, and most recently, Magi. She thoroughly enjoys all of them, especially HxH and FMA: B. I also collect manga volumes, and I'm at about 93 right now, and she thinks that's pretty cool too.

My mother prefers to watch anime in English if it's available, probably because the English Fairy Tail is what I showed her first. But she also thinks that Japanese is a very lyrical and beautiful language, as do I. She also likes how they have so many layers of respect for each other.

If anyone judges you because you enjoy something that doesn't harm you or anyone else, you can label them a douche right on the spot, IMO. That's like grade school kind of behavior right there.
