Started off in Philosophy, and then switched to Mathematics (basically the same thing, believe it or not) with a minor in Philosophy. Basically, I found that I could understand the material without the classes, and could learn a lot more if I study in a field that I'm not so good at. So I decided on Mathematics, and oddly enough, had the same problem. But, I was basically done with the degree at the time, and so just decided to finish it off.

So if I'm talking about why I picked Philosophy, then it was because I enjoyed it and was good at it. I left Philosophy because I was good at it. I picked Math because it was, like Philosophy, interesting and enjoyable. As a plus, I thought it was something I would have a tough time learning without a professor. But as it turns out, lectures are pretty damn close to useless in upper-level mathematics -- you pretty much do all your learning when you're working on proofs and clarifying ideas in office hours. In other words, a textbook and internet forum are enough to learn it pretty well. Math is a pretty solitary learning process. Even when you ask for help on a proof, it usually ends up that they give their version of the proof, and you need to figure out if and why it works out, which in turn opens up the concept.

So if I could choose again, then I'd probably choose no major and not waste my time and money on things I can learn for the price of a good textbook. Anything else I'd have liked to study -- literature, physics, neuroscience, poetry, etc. -- I can learn pretty well without schooling, and don't really want to do them as a career either.

I'm currently studying Civil Engineering.

At first, it was because of my father.
No, he never told me to be an engineer too, but he took the family to see Malpaso and Peñitas dam in Tabasco and Chiapas here in Mexico. I was very impressed and thought to myself "how the hell did they do that?".

Now that I'm here, I think I'll specialize in water sciences and hydraulics.

I started for Graphic Design and now I work for a company doing all the T-Shirt designs. The reason I chose GD was because with it you become very well rounded in all sorts of media (photography, digital art, ect). So while working almost everyday I also subscribed to www.lynda.com and learn animation, video editting, and much more. I figured this would be good for truly finding what I want to do with my life. I have been enjoying Video Editing and animation. Lots of fun! www.lynda.com is great for learning ANY program inside and out.

I was working on my AA, majoring in psychology but I've dropped that now and am now heading towards a career in nursing.
I've seen several people over my life die of Dementia related illnesses so I specifically want to work with the elderly and try help improve nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Computer Software Engineering. I love idea of being able to create something intangible. Being able to create something that everyone can use/enjoy is something I strive for.

My major is Health Information Technology. Pretty much chose this since I get to work in the healthcare while being behind computers. Not very fond of a lot of talking face to face with people so this is a good choice.

Not sure which part of the field I'm going to go into but most likely, it'll be coding.
