So if you could choose any universe from any of your favorite anime, TV shows, movies, books, or games, to live in... what would you choose.

The catch... You leave all your current friends and family behind, and you are unable to return.
Would you do it? If so...
Where would you go, what would you do, and why go there?

Choose wisely.

My choice would have to be Gensokyo, from the Touhou Project.
Sure it would be extremely dangerous, but I would go to Reimu's shrine, and, hopefully, Reimu will be of use to protect me from the hundreds of youkai.
I would watch, or even partake in the various random situations that occur there.
As to why I would go to such a dangerous place, it's because of all the amazing places and people that live there, not to mention, that besides one person, all inhabitants of Gensokyo are female.

Now it's your turn.

Can I choose Earth? Plenty of stuff takes place (or claims to, anyway) in our actual reality. :D

I like all the stories of anime, games, books, etc. for what they are: stories. As cool as all the things that happen in them are, I wouldn't want to actually be there. I have a lot more fun watching excitement or drama than I do actually being involved in it, so travelling to one of my favorite settings defeats one of the major appeals for me: the fact that I don't have to be present. All these awesome settings exist already as ideas, and that, to me, is the important part. I don't want to dilute one of them by showing up there myself.

A Certain Scientific Railgun universe. Technology has improved significantly (including wind turbines in towns and town cleaning robots,) everybody seems to be doing perfectly fine as far as healthiness and wealthiness is concerned. There are shabby neighborhoods, but I've yet to see the absurdly poor and homeless, medical technology has evolved to near-miracle levels, teens and children are encouraged to take part in their schools and communities without being looked down upon due to age, schools are important, there are very passionate and scholarly christian groups, & scientific discoveries seem to be paramount.

There's crime, but there's a significant number of highly able-bodied citizens that help deal with such troubles.

I'd probably choose to stay here if that's the case. Not only that but it's hard to find a universe where something depressing or threatening doesn't happen because, hey, that makes for an interesting story. And I wouldn't want to be in a world that is constantly under threat or where bad things keep happening for the rest of my life. Even then it depends on what sort of a life you'd be living. Are you 'main character' status or just someone who lives in that world? Are you a high up important person with responsibilities? Are the chances of your survival slim compared to important people? It all depends, but I have the feeling my life would be significantly shorter in an anime world. If I went for a peaceful place then we'd probably be talking more slice of life which is just normal life anyway.

Either Sword Art Online (not Aincrad) because of the technology, the AmuSphere technology is pretty amazing, and safe compared to the original Nerve Gear, and in addition you know in the future the technology gets better, and the world is fairly stable because Accel World takes place in the same world in the future.

Other than SAO, Chobits, for similar reasons.

Preferably one free of religion. Outside of that, I'm fairly flexible.

The world world where Outbreak Company takes place. I could have the harem an otaku like me has always dreamed of while spreading the glorious word of anime while secretly gaining political favor!

The world of Asobi ni Iku yo!, or probably more specifically Catia. I mean, Catgirls! What is there not to like? Plus some seem to also have blue hair!

Oh yeah, a stable universe with high tech, seemingly happy people, star travel, blue haired catgirls, assistaroids, catgirls...

Would I leave everything behind for that?

Oh hell yes. Would not even think twice. Would not even care if I did not have time to leave a note. I would be gone in a heartbeat.

Easy, either Naruto or Hunter X Hunter verse.

If not neither of those, then definitely Digimon or Pokemon. As old as I am, I would dominate both with in 5 hours.
