So I was thinking about trying Crunchyroll streaming on my HDTV but via my PC. Have any of you done this? I will need an HDMI cable that is long enough, for starters. I will also need a wireless mouse so that I can navigate the site away from my desktop. I will want to use headphones, so I'll need to get a wireless pair of headphones. Anyone have a suggestion on those? Something affordable but of solid quality?

Also, I forget, how do you get your computer displayed material up on an HDTV? You go into display settings, right?

If you've already got this many questions before even starting, I'd suggest looking at the /devices that have a CR app available. It'll be much easier for you, and the people that would be trying to help you get set up.

I do it, but I use it for more than CR (for example, typing this reply right now), and had a HTPC before CR supported any type of settop box.

How long the cable needs to be depends on how far your PC is from your HDTV. Monoprice is a good source for inexpensive longer HDMI cables. While HDMI is certainly the most convenient (as it carries both audio and video, and is digital), if one is short of HDMI ports on the TV or the computer lacks one, most HDTV sets also support VGA and analog video input.

Regardless of the input you are using, getting your material displayed on your HDTV should be as simple as switching to the appropriate input using the remote. One item to keep in mind if you are using HDMI is to make certain the TV is not overscanning the input (with VGA, this is rarely an issue, as the HDTV knows this is a computer input).

For a mouse, if you are going to be using it on a couch, chair, or even carpet (i.e, sitting in the floor), not just any mouse will do. Logitech used to make a "couch mouse" that worked very well, but they have since discontinued it. When mine developed a problem with the left button, the warranty replacement they sent me was a M525, which seems to work well on my chair arm. (By contrast, a higher end Logitech I had before would constantly get lint in it's deeper sensor well and start acting up).

Wireless headphones are something I have little experience with. It is too bad CR doesn't have the HD support out for the Roku yet, as the Roku 3 would solve the problem by giving you a headphone jack on the remote. Frankly, at this instant, the best settop box for CR alone is probably the Apple TV.

Thanks for all your help in this thread and the other thread. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do CR on a particular TV. I'm still undecided on what I'll do. The Roku 3 with the headphone jack is a selling point. Otherwise, I'd probably settle on Apple TV.

Playstation 4 has a CR app already. I might get a PS4 sooner rather than later depending on the CR app. Does the PS4 CR app do 1080p? One thing I'd have to double check on is if you can use headphones on the PS4 controller. It has a headphone jack, but I don't know if it is just for headsets for online games or for headphones, too.

While it is confirmed the PS4 app does HD, I have been unable to find confirmation if that includes 1080p or 720p. While I believe it supports 1080p, at this point I have no concrete statement of that to point to.

Per this article, it appears that any audio can be routed through the jack on the controller:

To do it, hold down the PS Button on the center of the controller, and under Device Settings you can adjust different aspects of the DualShock 4, including speaker volume. Under that same menu is where you can opt to play all audio through your headphones.

I did a quick search for some confirmation of someone using it outside of games, but this was as close as I could come to confirmation. It would seem a bit odd if the feature was limited to game audio, but it would certainly be comforting to see someone say, "Works great with the video apps too!" or something similar.

If no PS4 owner responds here, you could probably hit up the PS4 app announcement topic for the site news and ask a PS4 owner there for confirmation.
