Sometimes it feels like the video player has a will of its own and decides deliberately not to work when I know for sure it can. I've been a premium member since last year and in all that time, their video player has had some hiccups here and there but this problem still persists. Just last month I came back to CR after a break from anime and it was working fine. Unfortunately now these past 2 weeks or so the video player will always pause and stutter to buffer despite my connection being 100% fine while using other video streaming/downloading services.

Sometimes I get lucky and 95% of an episode will play without messing up (sometimes it happens during the outro/next episode previews, where the video doesn't even have a minute left to load) but the majority of the time it will work for a minute or two before going back to stuttering and acting as if the video hasn't loaded at all. This is all with the web-based Crunchyroll video player. The iOS app loads the video perfectly with no issues, but I'd rather watch it on my desktop monitor than a phone screen. This whole thing has honestly tempted me to stop paying for CR and to just download anime instead.

I have to say that for myself personally I have had no real issues with the playback of videos. I am from New Zealand, and so I was actually expecting to have some buffering issues. But that does not seem to be the case. Occasionally I will get a small stutter, at this point all I need to do is pause the video for a maximum of 3-4 seconds and bam no longer any stuttering issues.

Also, I just should note that I do not seem to have any issues what so ever in skipping the video ahead. It picks up pretty quickly.

I am watching in 1080p.

I do not have a membership at the moment, so I'm restricted to watching in 480p. Nonetheless, there are times when I'm watching an episode and every minute or so the video playback will just stop and I have to refresh the window just to get it playing again. This has been happening pretty frequently lately, and I know my internet is working fine. Is anybody else having these issues?

At times my video will stop and act as if it reached the end of the episode, don't really mind that. But 2 days ago 720 and 1080p started to shudder, constant slight pause. Upgraded my PC a couple months ago and can play any new game, and made sure I had latest flash player, so it is not my PC nor connection.

not the first time I have seen this, I think eventually CR fixes the issue. But is annoying.

streaming would be nice if crunchyroll update its video player from flash to html5 player....

I think it has more to do with the DRM that is in place.

Something is just horribly wrong with this player. Only on the website does the player keep pausing or freezing when I'm trying to watch something at 1080p, even switching to the lower settings doesn't work either and my connection speeds are pretty decent with 50 mb download, about 6-8 mb upload, and I can only watch it on SD setting with no problems. Now if I watch something on either my PS4 or even my freaking phone it works perfectly fine at 1080p no problem.

If anyone is having problems with the video player, it's not you. it's them. The stuttering and freezing. is not a problem on your end.

I don't experience any significant issues without a blazing fast Internet connection, so it's not necessarily on either CR's or the users' end, and is likely somewhere in-between.

The problem is with CR. Me and all my friends all have blazing fast internet connections. We use wired connections and not wifi cause wifi isn't always stable. We're gamers so having optimal internet is important to us. We all have the same problems ONLY on CR. Not on any other site with any other video player.

It seem users east og the Big old Miss. river tend to have more problems !

Whay gets me ANNNEws say they have 10 million users / only 700,000 have subs > You would think with that many papd customers and all the Ad revenue they get from standard users they wouild better servers for the eastern US .

That dont count the two new supposed investments they got and the original Chernin Group. I swear when thsat first investment came about that when's the problems got worse!

I pay for both CR and Funimation. Funimation used to be the worst one. But now is better and doesn't act like a bitch.

This site video player need to die and get replace. I fucking hate it. How is it that I can watch 1080p on Funimation just fine but no here?

If i was CR I would see if there was away to extend the amount of buffering there video player does, sometimes these 1080p videos can be big in size and the buffering might not be compensating for it, but that's just me shooting in the dark on it.

I have noticed that when I get the constant freezing even if I pause it doesn't help at all just waiting 30 seconds and resuming I still get freezing within 2 to 5 seconds.

The Flash player loads content only as it's played, and has no real "buffer" mechanism; this is reportedly by design to hamper pirates from copying episodes without permission.

Yeah guys, the awful flash player is needed to deter piracy! I really hope they are not continuing to use the flash player for reasons related to piracy. Nearly their entire catalog of anime can be easily accessible on third party sites.

Anyone who thinks Flash accomplishes anything other than bollocksing up security is somewhere between naïve and needing a court-appointed guardian. But CR seems to believe (and I don't have any reason to doubt them) that it makes publishers happy, so it continues.

It kinda reminds me of the legendary question on US immigration forms, "Do you plan to assassinate the President?" Yes, it's stupid. But if you don't give the answer they want, you'll never get in.

I think it's due to their cheap content development network (CDN). I've been bitching to them (at least when you could directly contact support) and always would get "Send us a trace route!" Not that anything was ever done.

Same problem with the Roku player, too, so it's not the client.

These guys are just cheap.
