well its the year 2008 and guess what? many of us still havent mastered grammer!
with the dawn of the new years i wonder how could anyone (in hi skool) still not manage to write properly or read (ridicule me all you like but keeping my eyes on the screen hurts since my old glasses broke and i rather be mocked than blind!)
during my school year one teacher has attemped suicide due to the student's continual use of
"all your base are belong to us", "ROFLCOPTER", "omg haxor in teh sever"
so i ask you fellow forum dewllers, is this acceptable in todays society?

Considering that most people are idiots, yes. I personally think it's annoying and makes you seem dumber than you truly are.

If you TRY to speak/have proper sentence structure, then your okay with me. (Stuff like 'rofl, lol, btw, brb' are fine with me.) I mean, I'm pretty dumb myself. x.x But at least I try.

Yup, bad grammar is acceptable in today's society. For one simple reason, there's so much people with bad grammar it out numbers the ones with good grammar. <-- Therefore, it is acceptable to the ones who also have bad grammar, which is a vast majority I must admit.

Grammer is hard. I think the only people with good grammer are english teachers or people with english majors.

I have this thing where I need to write everything out. If I can speak English, then I will use it properly (or try to at least, ha). I can't stand using shortcuts like "u" and substituting numbers for letters (4ever, 2nite). A lot of these new chat acronyms I don't even understand because I don't use them or hear the people I'm close to.

Yes, I tend to have so many grammar errors on my essays. While the idea is good, the grammar brings my essay down to a B-/C+ grade.
Horrible, just horrible.

i remember a long time ago, i called someone out on a forum for writing like a 5th grader and he retorted that he could "write however he wanted, it's not school." ...i still don't understand WHY anybody would want to write like a retard on purpose.. . "it's not school".. omg was he kidding me? somebody please enlighten me as to why this problem even exists.. it's only considered okay if english is not your first language.

For non native English speakers, bad grammar is i think just fine most of the time, but not acceptable in formal speeches and gatherings like summits etc. You will become the object of stupidity.

As for the inborn English speakers, bad grammar is definitely a shame. Its your language, who does it best but you right?

and how about the accents.. I have a Korean friend wherein a good English speaker with correct grammar, but the accent suck, I almost don't understand him. What's the use of Good grammar without good pronunciation.

I hate when people speak like that all the time. A few shortcuts are ok but when the whole sentence is like that... I think everyone should at least try. That way, when it comes time to write an essay or something, you don't have to think really hard about how much slang you're using because it would all come a lot easier if you're used to writing properly.
