*chuckles* You know, it's not just this new generation. I had a long debate with my mother about the importance of grammar and punctuation... I was on the pro side. *shakes head* To some, the rules of English should only apply to the the point that it affects content.

Unfortunately.I use abbreviations like 'lol' and 'imo' but I like using punctuation and capitalizing my I's and the first letter in a sentence.

I used to use "LAWLACOPTA". That was fun the first four times.

What's "omg haxor in teh sever"?

To thread starter...isn't it "grammar"? instead of "grammer"?

anyhow! I personally try and type/talk with the best grammar possible. And i tent to avoid typos, if there is a word that I don't know how to spell I rather "replace" it or "state" that I don't know how to spell it properly =P

Though the thing is, no one talks with perfect grammar. And chatting/typing on the internet is not much different from talking in RL. So I don't think its a "must" that people "must" have perfect grammar long as they don't talk like "dis" I'm fine with it.

Grammar is quite hard to grasp. So lots of people aren't as good at it as others i mean whe im in a rush my grammar is really bad. I mean my friends think im really posh because of the way i phrase things when talking and i tend to correct their grammar alot which is really annoying to them. I dont mean to though. Im rumbling sorry, but Im ok with ad grammar its just a little hard sometimes to understand people using the shortened forms of some words especially when youre all from different places (but i usually ask wat they mean by it).

Of course it's okay to be bad at grammer. Grammer is not an easy thing to master or get the hang of. I'm an english major, trust me I know.

Honestly judging someone based on their grammar is way too ily for me. I know what they basically mean so I don't see the point of being anal about it.

Grammar is probably the easiest subject in school other than science. I really don't see how someone could mess up spelling online, though. When Firefox has an easy-to-use auto-spellcheck. It's really easy to right click on the words underlined in red, you know.

As far as misspelling in school. I can understand if you misspell some long, complicated word, but if you can't spell things like 'Grammar' (which half of the responses here have misspelled this word) something is fundamentally wrong with either you, or your education..

I accept bad grammer to an extent only if it is used in speaking, if some one wrote me a letter the way they would speak I wouldn't understand any of it. There is a huge difference in spoken english and written, I am not the type that knows how to read in between the lines, I just read what I read... when I was in high school the class averge for english was 60%, most of the kids in my class was white. I think bad grammer is problem, some kids wrote "LOL" in thier responds essay....

Well, it's not acceptable in school but you can use it when you talk on instant messengers. (:
