There are a number of things you can criticize about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, particularly the Endless Eight arc. From the perspective of trying to make a good, entertaining anime, that arc makes no sense whatsoever.

But what I like about the series is that its "faults" took what would've been a decent but unremarkable show, and turned it into a timeless experience. It's like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, watching it puts you in an exclusive club.

Granted, the membership list is pretty huge, but you've still experienced something unique in anime. The Endless Eight arc was the wrong choice for entertainment, but the right choice for an EVENT which we can share as a culture.

The series has been dead in the water since 2011 with no news. And Kyoto Animation doesn't seem interested in adapting any more so if any of the additional novels get animated it would have to be with a different studio.

So I'm a little worried that the ship has sailed and we'll never even see an ending for the Light Novels. The only glimmer of hope is that the LN's had a hiatus between 2007 and 2011 and that the series hasn't been officially abandoned. But keep in mind that during those times the franchise was at it's peak for popularity and part of the reasoning behind the hiatus could have been due to work on the adaptation.

So yeah. Fingers crossed. I want at least one more novel to finish the series off with.

I'm exited for the Nagato anime!

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of the first of the (What I call) Lagendary animes that I saw and I LOVED it. Endless 8 was what I considered a waste of episodes, but it was a funny concept.

I loved the endless 8.. I watched every second of it. It gave more impact to what was going on by the time the movie came out. Considering how many times they had to repeat time and the impact on the movie as to Nagato's powers.. I think people glossed over that. Nagato is my favorite character so to see her have THAT much control over the universe was staggering and drilled home HOW many years she managed to stop time. It was visceral.

I agree on all counts! I watched and enjoyed every second of the endless 8s, checking for differences in dialogue and content.

And I love Nagato. Are you as excited as I am about the anime adaptation upcoming for Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu???? I can't wait!!!

Whoruhi... that takes me back to better times. Before the total collapse of civilization as we know it. Before the decline crystalized in the blood of the civil. Before all became lost.

I had no idea a Nagato spin off existed! I admit I haven't followed the series outside of the series and movie that came out.

The manga is still ongoing too.

Only problem is, there haven't been any updates since the original anime announcement. So I'm a bit worried that it isn't going to happen.

Movie was great! Hopefully Funimation gets the rights to it and releases it in Blu Ray.

They did get movie for bluray. Funny thing is the bluray version in uk was pushed back several times and then on day 1, cancelled it. Thus no bluray for uk and likely never to come. So i ordered the american version. I'd rather import the film on bluray then just upscale.

Most of the time i'd just get dvd to upscale but the haruhi movie was truly exceptional, really wanted it in highest quality going!

Loved this show, this was the gateway show that got me into anime too.

Loved 1st season, was really confused with 2nd cause I watched Endless 8 on youtube each ep in 3 parts....the horror
the movie was something to die for. the spin offs are fun to watch.

The manga has its good points, I still need to catch up on the LNs

I pray the Nagato spinoff will be good like the manga and hope the missing 708th frame somehow is a precursor to a 3rd season as unlikely that is to happen...-_-

The only one I see that's A/1 and is dub, is from Bandai, and it's $145... That's why I want Funimation to get the rights to it, because they would probably sell the movie for $25 or $35.
