In my view, what made "the Big Three" special was the combination of a Japanese anime industry where the revenue worked for making filler arcs when the original manga material ran short, the ongoing dubs on cable TV, and the rise of the fandub download and scanlation reading sites that let people read the manga as well as watch the anime as it was coming out in Japan.

The combination is not going to be repeated because cable TV would rather own the animation that they show and because filler arcs have stopped making economic sense.

So most long running "fight-kabob" shonen anime will be more like half a year on, half a year off than going on without stopping almost every week of the year, which means they will fit in as tent-pole titles in the mix of seasonal series that people watch.

Hunter x Hunter is an exception because its a reboot of a manga title that had a prior anime made, with the reboot being able to stick closely to not just the plot but also the pacing of the original manga content because of the massive backlog of material they are starting with. But even there, its in a different setting so its not likely to ever take over the "Big Three" status that emerged in conditions of five to ten years ago.

And as far as Sword Art Online ... I enjoyed it in a "turn you brain off and cheer for the good guys in the fight-kabob" kind of way, but I'm happy it didn't go on for 600 episodes.

What about a new big 3?
I mean we still have Attack on Titan and Hunter x Hunter.

But anyways I hope Naruto, Bleach and One Piece have a pretty good ending.

I hope there are no more 'big 3' or anything of the sort in the future. I hope titles with better writing get more recognition and that future series don't outstay their welcome with unholy amounts of chapters.

I doubt One Piece will ever end. So i guess they will just have to replace the other two.

I don't know. Hopefully a gigantic herd of ignorant anime fans will learn to appreciate the "Small Thousands." Maybe then some of the series I love will get second seasons instead of constantly dropping off the face of the world after their runs are over.

Hopefully we'll get something more creative.
Or the Universe will finally implode.

This coming from the guy who likes that piece of garbage anime made for 4 year olds known as SAO.

Hody Jones is a racist who orchestrates history to his own desire to create animosity towards humans for the sake of Fishman pride

Kayaba: LOL I FORGOT WHY I CREATED SAO

Danzo works within the shadows and sacrifices his own humanity for the greater good of the ninja society at any cost, even if it means killing innocent people

Sugou: LOL I'M EVIL FOR NO REASON

The world of literature would be better off if we incinerated the SAO novels and the Twilight Novels in a massive flame.

i think there was a reason that Kayaba created the world. from my perspective he created the world because he wanted to have a world he controlled and were all that lives in it must follow the rules set in his world. he acted like a god. that is why he let kirito go at the end because kirito did the impossible in the game that Kayaba himself made.
then when it comes to Danzo i think it was just his twisted way of what he thought had to be done so have really nothing to say on that. SAO as a whole did fail after everything said and done but for a antagonist he was in fact something i liked about him and to me he was a good character. that is what i thought at least.
