I heard the ending on the radio and I was deeply moved, so much so that I decided to watch the series. The problem is I'm probably going to watch it with a friend and I don't like to be in any kind of emotional state when I'm around others. Is this series a tear-jerker?

It depends on how you watch it but I'd say, you don't need tissues.

I didn't cry after I finished it, and I'll cry to Advertising during a football game. So...

Yes, there is a big payoff, that could pull a tear or two.

Turns out the ending theme I'm listening to is from the movie. I'll watch that instead of the miniseries. I seems like more the complete package.

Both have their merits.

There's one episode that's especially emotional in the second half of the series, but other than that, I don't remember it being too much of a tear-jerker.

It really depends. There's certainly elements that are made to elicit a strong emotional response at times, which could lead to tears if you are prone to being moved by touching scenes. So, basically it will depend on how personally you relate to the moments and if you are moved by them strongly.

It's not really a tear jerker, but there are a few moments that are touching. I recommend the movie over the episodes as those moments have a greater impact IMO.

Edit: I should have read the post right above mine first...
