I'm looking to spend a summer between school years to travel.
I am thinking that I want to travel to Japan - all through Japan. While I'm on that side of the hemisphere I'd like to travel into south Korea.

Now I know zero Japanese, other then some words, and zero Korean. I would brush up on the language before hand.

How much U.S. Dollars should I bring with me?
Are there certain places I have to see that are a must?
Any advice for a foreigner?
Should I make friends with a gaijin to help as a translator?
Do I need to be weary about certain places and times?

Hi there. I'm closing this because generally personal help/advice threads aren't allowed in the forums, and we do already have several existing threads in which it would be appropriate to ask (if the answers aren't already provided as part of the discussion).
