Did a friend recommend it?

Were you interested in the art work?

Did you see news on a popular anime?

Personally, I started because I wanted to re-watch Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. It was a show that I remembered watching with my brother, but I couldn't really remember it besides the fact that I liked it. After finishing the show, I was interested in watching more anime and I fortunately found Crunchyroll to soothe my cravings.

Now the question remains...why did you start watching anime?

My friend showed me the first episode of a series on Crunchyroll, and gradually I started getting more and more into it. Now, I watch it whenever I have free time.

I watched it because it was on TV?

My first exposure to anime was the English dubs for things like Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and DBZ that were aired on TV in the late 90's.

I just watched them like any other cartoon at first. Then Toonami started airing on weekdays instead of at night and I had this nice and neat block of cartoons that looked nothing like the other cartoons I was watching, but they were so much cooler. Zoids, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, just goes on and on.

So yeah my "why" was simply because it was what was being played on TV.

Basically because it was more edgy than cartoons, and I was at that age where I felt I had outgrown cartoons but these new fangled anime things were totally sweet. But over time I actually began to appreciate them for the story and art.

I started watching Anime with the spanish dubbed version of DB, DBZ, and Ranma 1/2 when i was a kid. Gradually i got hooked on Card Captor Sakura, Pokemon and local aired anime. It was not until i was 16 did i fully began venturing into it all due to conventions i began attending and the friends i made then. Even now i am a hardcore fan who collects figures, manga and anime goods XD[/b]

when i was a kid, i loved cartoons. I accidentally saw a late night screening of Patlabor on what was then Teletoon and absolutely loved it. It was darker, serious, had actual plot and the robots definitely added to it. After i saw that at the tender age of 12, there was no going back. I sought it out in any way i could. I was never really able to find a stable source of anime until netflix but that was just a taste. Crunchy roll though, is an all you can eat buffet. Love this site, love anime.

True Story:

It was at my second job as a Junior computer animator. I had only worked for this animation shop for about 2-years. I was terrible, or at least bad enough to get fired. At around 4:30 PM, my boss came into my office and fired me on the spot. He felt bad. On my way out the door, he gave me a wrist watch (a nice one) and a VHS copy of Akira.

I drove to Niagara Falls (Canadian side) the next day. I had no job, no girlfriend, and no future really. I was looking at the waterfall holding the watch my ex-boss had giving me the day before. I threw it into the falls. It left my hand and disappear into the cold thunderous water. It was water resistant.

The hotel I had checked into had a VHS player. I bought some expensive wine, popped in Akira and proceeded to watch it 5 times in row only pausing to buy more wine.

After the fifth time viewing it, I still didn't under it at all, but I did know what I needed to do at that point. I could see beyond my isolation and sadness and abject despair. It wasn't a light at the end of the tunnel, but rather a path where I thought there was only forest. That was good enough. It was a start.

When I checked out the next morning, I left my VHS copy of Akira in the bedside stand drawer... right next to the Gideon Bible.

And that's how I began...

I was about 6 or 7 and I remember getting up early in the mornings to watch Sailor Moon, which was my first anime. I think the graphic design was interesting to me and so was the plot. From there that's where my anime journey began.

I started watching anime because I was exposed to the art style and action of anime as a kid on TV. I grew up watching anime on Toonami and delve deeper into anime because I enjoyed what I saw on TV. I started watching anime more regularly and seriously because I liked the depth of characters, the stories, the artwork and had a personal interest in Japanese culture. I preferred anime to western cartoons as a kid and even now as an adult I like anime and find myself appreciating character design and plot more.

I simply stumbled across Digimon when I was nine years old. And then I discovered Medabots, Toonami, Yu-Gi-Oh, and a bunch of others. As to why I kept watching? It just felt natural. Like breathing. The more anime I watched the more I wanted to watch.

Truth be told, the anime Inuyasha is what really got me into watching anime overall. I mean Toonami, Adult Swim, Fox Box(before 4Kids), and Funimation helped too but Inuyasha really made a difference.

One of my friends back in elementary showed me Naruto, and that's how it all began. Remembering back I actually didn't take it seriously and put it down for a number of years before returning at around the end of middle school. I watched a couple of more random shows before taking another short hiatus. I only took it more seriously once I moved to high school. Now I plan to keep at it and watch what I can.
