Well i first saw anime when i was maybe 7 years old. A cousin who was babysitting me was watching Akira on TV late night and let me stay up to watch it. I remember it just blew my mind that cartoons with swearing and blood existed XD. The experience kind of stuck with me and a couple of years later that same cousin moved on to other things and i managed to get his tapes and became more and more into it. So really it started as a curiosity that i learned more and more about and became a big fan of shows like Dominion Tank Police and Armitage III.

I've been watching anime way back when I was still like 5 or 4 years old? Sailor Moon but got addicted w it when I was in 2nd year High school..a lot of people hate me back then for being the mean girl...Then this local channel aired Shakugan no shana and it turned everything around.. from being the social butterfly mean girl to the anti social introvert geek heheeheheh I'm very thankful for anime though..that's all lol..

In 1994 i was, 6 years old, and i had feasted my eyes on what every kid who watched Cartoon network after 330pm. Dragon Ball and Dragon ball z. ill NEVER forget raising my hands in the sky and screaming "GOKU TAKE MY SPIRIT ENERGY!!" from that point forward i was hooked. more hooked then a meth addict. but what started it all? im 1993, my brother bought me a movie titled "Princess Mononoke" That film impacted more then any disney movie or looney toons could ever do. it really gave emotion birth to animation in my eyes.

Well there is the obvious watching it on Toonami block on Cartoon Network with its DB, DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, etc etc. But I tend not to count that because I stopped doing that as soon as Middle School started and I didn't get back into Anime until just last year where...

I was at my friends house, she was already a bit of an Otaku and watched Anime all the time. At the time I didn't really care, I knew the differences between Cartoon and Anime, and knew Anime tended to be a bit more adult (sometimes) animations so I didn't really nag her about watching childish stuff. Anywho, I was at her house and she had just started watching Baka to Test. I had nothing to do that day so I just ended up staying there and watching it with her. Next thing we knew we had watched nearly 8 hours of it and it was time for dinner. It was Spring Break so I ended up just crashing at her house (we were childhood friends, so it wasn't the first, or last, time I just crashed at her house) and we finished up Baka to Test, from there she showed me a few more shows that were dubbed, and then after like 2 or 3 days of nearly nothing but Anime we watched a few subbed shows and I instantly fell in love with them over the dubbed.

Now nearly a year and a half later i've watched who knows how much Anime (though surprisingly I still have yet to watch any of the big movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) and I don't have any plans to quit anytime soon.

Because I was 10 and wanted to draw 'Pokemon style'.
Then I discovered Mew Mew Power, which was basically the Powerpuff Girls fused with cats (at least in my mind).

Well I basically have been watching all my life even when I didn't know it. Shows like Voltron and Robotech I watched when I was 4/5 years old and had no idea what anime was. I found out what it actually was in the early 90's when I was about 10 or 11 and back then it was more commonly known as Japanimation. It was a lot harder to come by in those days we are all so spoiled now. I use to rent every kind of anime they had at the video stores. When I was 16 I found out about a store that sold English fansubs across the street from Florida International University in Miami, Fl. I guess I was always into the styles but I always loved the continuous storylines that came with the shows.

Now the question remains...why did you start watching anime?

True Story:

It was at my second job as a Junior computer animator. I had only worked for this animation shop for about 2-years. I was terrible, or at least bad enough to get fired. At around 4:30 PM, my boss came into my office and fired me on the spot. He felt bad. On my way out the door, he gave me a wrist watch (a nice one) and a VHS copy of Akira.

I drove to Niagara Falls (Canadian side) the next day. I had no job, no girlfriend, and no future really. I was looking at the waterfall holding the watch my ex-boss had giving me the day before. I threw it into the falls. It left my hand and disappear into the cold thunderous water. It was water resistant.

The hotel I had checked into had a VHS player. I bought some expensive wine, popped in Akira and proceeded to watch it 5 times in row only pausing to buy more wine.

After the fifth time viewing it, I still didn't under it at all, but I did know what I needed to do at that point. I could see beyond my isolation and sadness and abject despair. It wasn't a light at the end of the tunnel, but rather a path where I thought there was only forest. That was good enough. It was a start.

When I checked out the next morning, I left my VHS copy of Akira in the bedside stand drawer... right next to the Gideon Bible.

And that's how I began...

Deep story, but even though you wrote true story I don't know if I should believe it or not. The small writing on the bottom left hand corner says, "nothing is true, everything is permitted". I don't know if that pertains to your story or not, so I can't discern wether or not you are trolling

I've watched anime as long as anime has been on tv just because they're good, fun stories and as a kid I got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

I started to seriously watch anime in more recent years for more personal reasons. At first it was a way to distract myself from certain things. But some of these series began to kind of uplift me in some way, and I've had a lot of personal growth...it's weird and hard to explain Basically I feel like it's a hobby that has been a catalyst for me having a slightly more positive outlook on things.
